I never thought that a trip to Coron Palawan would be this affordable. I’ve always had this perception that going to this world-famous tourist destination is expensive, not until I went there last June 19-21, 2011. If you've been following this series, you definitely know now that it wasn't an easy journey for me reaching Palawan - but all that hardships were paved off as it was an awesome 3D/2N Coron adventure.
To start it off, I wasn’t hands-on in preparing for this trip. My friend Ricky was the one who organized all the things needed. I just requested him to find the least expensive package. Although we’re having second thoughts on whether getting a packaged tour or doing a DIY trip, nonetheless we were enticed by the packaged tour offered by Rudy’s Place. Their tour costs 3,000 pesos for a 3D/2N stay - which is just right for our budget. Thanks Ricky for organizing this!
Getting a package or a DIY trip to Coron Palawan is really up to you. It definitely has its PROs and CONs. If you want to have full control on your itinerary, the food and the type of accommodation you want, I suggest that you do a DIY trip. However, if you don’t want to subject yourself on doing the strenuous work of researching, in creating an itinerary, finding an accommodation and contacting the hotels, you may opt to get a packaged tour.
I am not a fan of packaged tour, I always want to do my trips on my own. But in this case, since I don’t have much time to do the nitty gritty of organizing the trip, I willingly gave in to a packaged tour. And I’m glad I did!
Rudy's Place's 3D/2N Packaged tour includes:
- All meals for 3 days
- Mt. Tapyas Climb and Maquinit Hot Springs on Day 1
- 1 day Island Hopping tour and Snorkeling gears on Day 2
- Round trip Airport transfers
- All transportation to and from place of activity
- Entrance and guide fees

On the other hand, here's a quick run down if you prefer a DIY tour:
Airport Transfer (Busuanga-Coron) Lunch (Day 1) Accommodation (1st night) Tricycle Rental (Mt. Tapyas and Maquinit) Maquinit Entrance Fee Dinner (Day 1) Breakfast (Day 2) 1-Day Island Hopping Tour Snorekling Gear Rental Dinner (Day 2) Accommodation (2nd night) Breakfast (3rd Day) Airport Transfer (Coron-Busuanga) TOTAL | 150 100 500 300 100 100 100 650* 150 100 500 100 150 3,000 |
*based on Coron Galeri's rates on Coron loop island hopping tour for joiners
In the end, it's really up to you whether you get a packaged tour or explore Coron on a "Do-it-yourself" way - whatever suits your needs and preferences.
Let me hear you. What do you prefer, Packaged or DIY? You may leave your thoughts on the comment box below. Thanks!

Hi! I just found your site thru mapanuri. A boat rental for coron loop alone would cost 1500 if I'm not mistaken. Great deal you have there. If I may ask, ilan minimum # of head count para ma-avail siya? Be back in Coron alone next month so I'm also searching for budget friendly packages.
ReplyDelete@Malditang "Kura"cha - for rudy's place, i think there's no minimum, even solo travelers could take the 3K pero person package...makipag-bargain ka nalang...
ReplyDeletereally depends.
ReplyDeleteif you're in a big group, DIY is much cheaper. at that rate, you can also visit skeleton wreck, banana island and malcapuya (these spots are surely NOT included in the usual package).
but for soloista and small groups, winner na tong 3K! =)
@Chyng - i agree... mas lumiliit ang gastos if you're on a big group... thanks for sharing your thoughts Chyng! :)
ReplyDeleteSome packaged tours can be really awesome. I totally enjoyed some, especially if the guides are really knowledgeable. Good deal you got, Mervz!
ReplyDelete@Kathleen - yung 3k is the packaged tour lang ah.. comparing it with Chyng's 5k coron tour, mas mura pa rin yung sa kanila kc mas madami silang napuntahan and all-in na yung sa kanila... next post ko will include all my expenses incurred for the 3-day tour... thanks... :)
ReplyDelete@Pinay Travel Junkie - although affordability is subjective, for me, the 3k packaged tour is affordable na, especially for solo traveling... thanks Gay! :)
ReplyDeleteang mura..I'm planning to visit Coron next year. Sana hinde tumaas yung rate. hehehe...
ReplyDeleteDIY! I went to Coron and DIY'd also. Not only can you do your own thing, it's probably going to come out cheaper :)
ReplyDeletewow! thanks for the tips! really helpful, so pede pala itong i-solo. hmm!
ReplyDeleteAffordable nga oh!
ReplyDeleteanong email nyang sa package na yan?
ReplyDeletethis is tim.
If the schedule's tight and I know my companions are looking for a vacation rather than an adventure, I'd go with tour packages. But if I have to spend my own time and pace, I'd go for DIY. Mainly because I love trip planning :)
ReplyDelete@pack up and drift - yeah, sana nga... enhoy Coron! :)
ReplyDelete@♥ joei - yeah, it could be cheaper especially kung madami kayu.. :)
ReplyDelete@empi - yeas indeed! hehehe! thanks Empi! :)
ReplyDelete@Anonymous - i'll be posting the contact details on my next post... thanks po..
ReplyDelete@Astrid - me too... i enjoy doing the research and planning for a trip...yun lang, wala akong time for this, kaya we opted to get a package... thanks for sharing your thoughts Astrid! :)
ReplyDelete@dong ho - oh yes! i was just reading the newspaper about the bombing - exactly 4 days before i went to Basilan...tinatakot na nga ako ng mga friends ko, pero gusto ko talaga pumunta, at syempre with your advise and help i was able to be in a place i never thought i'll be able to set foot in... thanks Dom! :)
ReplyDeleteyes...please provide for the contact for the package. if i do go back home, i want to go to coron.
ReplyDelete@mike, @Krizzia - I'll be posting a travel guide later with all the contact details... thanks a lot... :)
ReplyDelete@marxtermind - i agree... it's better to create your own as long as you have time to do it... :)
ReplyDelete@Ed - yeah, that's the cheapest packaged tour we got... pero lahat lahat umabot din me ng almost 4k... will be posting the expenses in my next post... Thanks Ed! :)
