Misamis Occidental - Paying Homage to Nuestra Señora de la Conception y del Triunfo at the Cotta Shrine

Another popular site in Ozamiz City is the Nuestra Señora de la Conception y del Triunfo Shrine or more popularly known as Cotta Shrine. It is located at the south end of the Cotta Fort where a bas-relief image of the Virgin of the Immaculate Conception is enshrined in a small chapel outside the fort's wall. A lot of pilgrims visit the image of the Virgin Mary in pink and blue attire that is believed to be miraculously growing.

It reminds me of Fort Pilar in Zamboanga City where a certain part of the fort was also dedicated for veneration to Nuestra Señora del Pilar, patroness of Zamboanga.

There were pilgrims visiting the shrine to offer prayers, light candles and to touch the miraculous image.

The shrine has been a site of pilgrimage for catholic devotees from all parts of the country. The feast of the Our Lady of Triumph at Cotta Shrine is celebrated every July 16th which is also the charter day of Ozamiz City.

HOW TO GET THERE
It is located within the vicinity of Cotta Fort which is very near Ozamiz City Port. From the city center, you can take a leisurely walk to the fort for about 10 minutes or take a tricycle and the driver can bring you there.

This is a part of my trip to the cities of Marawi, Iligan and Ozamiz last September 16-18, 2011. Ozamiz City in Misamis Occidental is the 39th province on my list and a part my 10th solo trip.
