The street dancing competition for the Barangay Category at the Masskara Festival 2012 was held last October 21, 2012 at Araneta St. in Bacolod City. There were 14 contingent barangays from the "City of Smiles" that competed for the championship crown. The street dancing competition comprises 50% of the total score, while the other 50% was judged at the arena competition held at the city public plaza.
Emerging as the grand champion was Barangay 17, getting the highest combined score for the street and arena performances. They also won Best in Mask, Best in Concept and Best in Choreography.
I was able to witness the street dancing performances of the contingents. Too bad I wasn't able to get in the city public plaza to watch them perform. Anyway, here are some of the photos I took during the street dancing competition.
Cash prizes are as follow:
Champion - Php 100,000
First runner-up - Php 75,000
Second runner-up - Php 50,000
Third runner-up - Php 30,000
Fourth runner-up - Php 20,000

It was indeed a lot of fun and fervor showed by the groups. I was amazed by the intricate designs of the masks, the costumes' interplay of colors and the superb performances of the contingents.
