Rasa Pura Singaporean Seafood Restaurant is the first and only Singaporean restaurant in Baguio City that offers authentic Singaporean cuisines. Their kitchen is headed by Singaporean master chef Joseph Teo, who uses imported spices from Singapore to assure the authenticity in taste and flavor of their dishes. "Rasa Pura" which literally means "City of Taste" reflects the evolution of Singapore's food culture. Dining at Rasa Pura felt like I was instantly transported to Singapore with their mouthwatering and delectable Singaporean dishes.
Located at CM Recto corner Leonard Wood Road, it is conveniently situated on a newly-built building and easily accessible by private and public transportation. Upon entering the restaurant, we were gladly assisted by their lovely staff to our reserved table. The restaurant is elegant, spacious and exudes a fine dining ambiance, yet very relaxing and suitable for family gatherings.
For dinner during our Baguio Food Tour 2014 last March, we were able to sample on some great dishes that Rasa Pura Singaporean Seafood Restaurant offers. Here are the dishes on their menu that we got to try:
Traditional Singapore Cold Dish Platter
(PHP 1,200.00 - Family Size)Popularly served during wedding banquets or celebrations such as Chinese New Year, this cold platter is composed of prawn salad, century eggs, roast pork, and Asian fried egg with vegetables. I love the roast pork and the prawn salad. A perfect dish to start a meal.
Seafood Tofu Soup
A clear soup that's very flavorful due the use of tasty chicken stock. I also love how the tofu was cooked just right.Singapore Fried Hokkien Mee
(PHP 190.00 - Small / PHP 250.00 - Medium / PHP 300.00 - Large)A mixture of yellow noodles, thick rice vermicelli, egg and garnished with prawns, squid, and chives. It is best eaten with a little of calamansi just like our own pancit.
Authentic Singapore Hainanese Chicken
(PHP 350.00 - half / PHP 600.00 - whole)Another Singaporean specialty. At first, I was hesitant to taste it because it doesn't look appealing to me. Hahaha! But when I tried it, I was surprised by the taste of the chicken. It was so good. Tender and cooked very well. The best way to eat it is with its condiments served on the side. And oh, don't forget the fragrant rice!
Singapore Famous Satay – Pork BBQ
(PHP 40.00 per stick)Made of skewered and grilled meat, it is paired with sweet and spicy peanut sauce. This is one of my personal favorites. It was tender and very tasty.
Kangkong in Spicy Singapore Shrimp Paste / Kangkong Sambal
(PHP 120.00 Small / PHP 200.00 - Medium / PHP 300.00 - Large)One of Singapore's popular vegetable dishes, it is stir-fried fresh kangkong mixed in sambal belacan sauce, a combination of chili and shrimp paste.
Steamed Pompano in Tausi
(seasonal price)Very tender, tasty and fresh pompano fish steamed to perfection. Served in black beans (tausi) sauce and with a generous topping of toasted garlic. So tasty and flavorful.
Singapore Chilli Crabs
(seasonal price)I must say, this is everyone's favorite. The yummy crabs were stir-fried in a semi-thick, sweet and savory tomato and chilli-based sauce. With it's red to orange-y color, I expected it to be really spicy, but it's not. It just has the right spiciness, but (for me) it could be better if they made it more spicy. Nonetheless, this is a must-try at Rasa Pura.
The chili crabs are best eaten using your hands and paired with rice or steamed buns (cua pao).
Cereal Prawns
(seasonal price)This dish is made of fresh prawns deep fried to be perfectly crunchy. As a prawn-lover, this is one of my favorites. Satisfyingly delicious!
Overall, Rasa Pura Singaporean Seafood Restaurant offers a great place to dine in Baguio City. The restaurant's ambiance is very classy, yet warm and relaxing. The staff are pleasant, focused and provides personalized service to the guests. Though their prices are a bit hefty compared to other restaurants, you are guaranteed of sumptuous and authentic Singaporean dishes using just the finest ingredients.
If you want to experience authentic Singaporean cuisines, Rasa Pura Singaporean Seafood Restaurant is a must when visiting Baguio City.
