More than a dozen floats paraded tonight for the annual Maytinis Festival in the historic town of Kawit in the province of Cavite. Maytinis Festival is a well-loved Caviteño tradition held every Christmas Eve that showcases a dramatic recapping of St. Joseph and Virgin Mary's search for a place to stay in Bethlehem. It also features unique Filipino translation of the ancient biblical scenes of the history of mankind's salvation from the Old to the New Testaments depicted in dazzling floats with characters portrayed by Kawiteños.
Organized by the "Confradia de Sagrada Familia" in collaboration with the parish priest of Kawit, the floats that participated this year include Pitong Arkanghel, Eba at Adan; La Purisima Concepcion; Cain at Abel; Noeh at ang Baha; Moises; Haring David; Ruth and Noemi; Samson at Delilah; Infanta Judith; Reyna Ester; Daniel; Haring Solomon; Ang Pangako ng Dios kay Zacarias; Pagbati ng Anghel Kay Maria; Pagdalaw ni Maria kay Elizabeth; Panunuluyan; Ang Pagbabalita ng Anghel and Inang Pilipinas.
Together with my high school friends, we enjoyed watching every float that participated in this year's Maytinis Festival.
The procession ended in Kawit church where the Christmas eve mass was held.
HOW TO GET TO KAWIT, CAVITE
From Southwest Provincial Bus Terminal in Parañaque (Coastal Mall), take an air-conditioned bus bound for Cavite City (via CAVITEX is recommended). It passes by the town of Kawit, fare is 30-40 pesos and travel time is around 1 hour depending on traffic condition. Please be reminded to come early as main roads in Kawit are closed to vehicles a few hours before the festival starts at around 5:00 to 6:00 in the evening.
