I've already reviewed other ASUS Zenfones in the past - such as the Zenfone Zoom, Zenfone 2 Laser, Zenfone 2 Laser 6 and the Zenfone 2 ZE551ML. I must say, they are really good and a perfect companion for any type of traveler. That is why, I am so happy that I was able to test another ASUS Zenfone on my recent trip to Osaka, Kyoto and Shiga Prefectures in Japan during our Osaka Japan Familiarization Tour organized by Cebu Pacific Air.

What I love most about the ASUS Zenfone 3 Max
I instantly love the new design of the ASUS Zenfone 3 Max which has a premium look, weighs light and has that study feel. Compared to other Zenfones in the past, it now uses a lot of metals in its construction. Despite being the most affordable phone in the Zenfone 3 family, the new Zenfone 3 Max doesn’t feel or look cheap.
While most smartphones with huge battery capacity has bigger bodies than the normal smartphones, the new ASUS Zenfone 3 Max has a sleek ergonomic design having a dimension of 149.5 mm x 73.7 mm and just 8.55 mm thick. Weighing just 148 grams, it has a curved body design that fits perfectly in my hand and makes holding the phone easier even with one hand.
The power/lock, volume key buttons and the card tray for two Micro-SIM cards or a microSD card for storage expansion were nicely placed on the sides. The top side only has the 3.5mm headphone jack while the the bottom part has the micro-USB port for charging or data connectivity along with the main microphone pinhole.
In terms display, it has a 5.2" HD screen using 1280 x 720 display resolution which produces rich and natural colors.
Featuring a Quad-core 64-bit processor at 1.25GHz, it offers optimum performance and speed I am looking for in a smartphone that I can use in my travels. Paired with 3GB RAM, it lets me do multiple tasks without lagging. That's very important for someone like me you likes to open several apps simultaneously. While we were in Kyoto, I was taking photos, listening to music, browsing the web, checking Google Maps and posting in my social media accounts by opening several applications all at the same time. The ASUS Zenfone Max 3 didn't disappoint, I am so happy that it didn't hang. Awesome!!!
As for the camera, it has 13MP PixelMaster Rear Camera with 5p Lagan lens. Despite lacking a laser AF sensor, it still manages to take really good photos. Having a good smartphone that takes really good photos is very important for any traveler, like me who only rely on phone cameras in taking photos during travels. I love that the photos I took in Kyoto are sharp, wide-angle and has rich and natural colors.

Sample video using the ASUS Zenfone 3 Max
This video was taken on our way to Kansai Airport from Osaka City using ASUS Zenfone 3 Max camera's time-lapse video mode.
As for connectivity, it connects to 4G LTE, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and GPS. It also supports Dual Micro SIM cards, which is good for someone who maintains two mobile networks.
The best feature of the ASUS Zenfone 3 Max that every traveler will surely love is its massive battery capacity. While most smartphone only has about 2000mAh battery capacity, the new Zenfone 3 MAX has 4100mAh battery that can last for such a long time event on heavy use. It also supports fast charging with a supplied power adaptor of 5V 2A which only take about 2 hours and 45 minutes to have it fully charged.
More to that, it can also double up as a power bank to charge other mobile devices via an OTG adapter. This means sharing power juice to your travel buddies or to your other devices will never be a problem.
During my trip to Kyoto Japan, I was able to use it for 2 straight days without charging while using a portable travel WIFI router. But if you're using the phone's data connection, it will last for about a day with its huge battery capacity. That's really awesome especially if you're a kind of traveler who is always on the go and heavily uses a smartphone during your travels. Two thumbs up!
How much is the ASUS Zenfone 3 Max?
Available in Titanium Gray, Glacier Silver, Sand Gold, the new ASUS Zenfone 3 is sold with an amazing and affordable price tag of Php 8,995.00. It is definitely a bang for the buck and value-for-money considering its premium features and capabilities.
