Coron is and will always be one of my top favorite destinations in the Philippines. That is why, I am so happy when our friends from The Funny Lion invited us for a 3-day adventure in Coron, Palawan! Who wouldn't be excited to explore one of the most spectacular island destinations in the country with a stay at a boutique resort?We flew from Manila via a 45-minute Cebu Pacific flight. Upon safely arriving at Busuanga Airport, we were warmly welcome by The Funny Lion staff and ushered us to our service van.
The trip to the resort takes about 30 minutes. But it wasn't boring as we were entertained by the lovely sights of hills and mountains from the outside. Coron is truly beautiful!
There are many hotels and resorts in Coron, Palawan. But what sets The Funny Lion apart from other resort is its perfect location away from the busy and crowded town center.
Upon arrival at the resort, we were hospitably welcomed by the hotel staff and gave us cold towels and welcome drinks. We were then assisted with checking-in. It was fast and efficient; after about 5 minutes, we were given the key to our rooms.
Cub Room
Every guest will surely find solace in their own beautifully vibrant guest room equipped with all essential room amenities and facilities needed for a comfortable and relaxing stay.
Tastefully and minimally-designed Cub Room (Check rates online) is our temporary abode in Coron. It is a 20 sqm. guest room with 2 twins beds, a pull out bed, an en suite toilet and bath, Cable/LED TV, in-room safety deposit box, work desk, individually-controlled and silent air conditioning unit, luggage rack, and a mini bar with a personal refrigerator and a coffee & tea making facilities.
The toilet and bath is separated from the sink. It has a clean water closet with bidet spray, and a hot and cold shower area with excellent water pressure. The shower area is so nice and it has a rain shower feature, which I really like!
The lavatory which is located just outside the toilet and bath has a huge mirror, clothes and towel hanging area, hair dryer and all the toiletries such as shampoo, conditioner, bath soap, lotion and dental care and vanity kits were provided. The hand and bath towels are soft and all smell fresh! I couldn't ask for more, it's quite impressive!
As a welcome treat, there's also a platter of fresh fruits and salad which we loved so much!
Since our room is located at the 2nd floor, it also affords a relaxing view of manicured gardens and lush greenery.
Swimming Pool
You don't need to go far for a refreshing dip since the swimming pool is just a few strides away from your room. It has day beds scattered around and some dining tables where you could dine or have some drinks while enjoying the pool. This is the perfect spot to enjoy some cocktails with friends, spend time alone reading books, or just to savor the lush tropical surroundings. (See reviews online)
Dining
The Funny Lion also features awesome dining options such as the Hunt Restaurant and Pride Rock Deck, both offering wide array of delectable Asian, Western and Filipino cuisines. (See reviews online)
Pride Rock Deck
If there's one thing you shouldn't miss when staying at The Funny Lion, that would be the epic view that awaits at their rooftop restaurant and bar called Pride Rock Deck. The stunning view of the ocean with a lovely sunset view surrounded with tropical forest truly make it an Instagram-worthy paradise!
Reconnect with nature as you unwind and relax at one of the Jacuzzi while enjoying The Funny Lion's signature drinks during their cocktail safari happy hour starting at 5:00 PM daily.
Hunt Restaurant
The Funny Lion's all-day dining restaurant, Hunt Restaurant offers a unique dining experience with well-thought and specially-prepared Asian fusion dishes and a variety of fresh-out-of-the-sea delicacies.
Here are the mouthwatering dishes we got to try from Hunt Restaurant's menu:
Roaring BBQ Ribs - tender fork braised barbeque pork ribs in mango glaze with french fries.
Bone with a Hole - tender fork seared beef shanks braised in vegetables and tomatoes drizzled with blue cheese dressing served with organic rice.
Asian Cracking Pork Belly - melts in your mouth marinated crackling pork belly served with kimchi rice and hoisin peanut sauce.
Honey Glazed Chicken - herbed marinated half chicken served with side vegetables, chicken gravy and organic rice.
Honey Soy Glazed Salmon - seared salmon in honey soy glazed served with salad and squash mash.
Grilled Tiger Prawns - grilled seawater large prawns with garlic shrimp butter and garden green salad tossed in honey vinaigrette.
Dinakdakan - soy marinated grilled porl belly tossed with cucumbers and tomatoes in coconut cream.
Breakfast Buffet
Every morning we were treated with several local and international dishes at the Hunt Restaurant's buffet breakfast. Though the selection is limited, it is composed of well-selected and delicious dishes. There's meat, fish and vegetables dishes to choose from. There's also salad and cheese bar, an egg section where you could order your favorite omelette (or whatever your egg should be done), and a variety of fresh fruits for desserts. We were really full in every breakfast we had. What a great way to start our day!
Saturday Grill Buffet
If you're staying during the weekend, try their Saturday Grill Buffet that is filled with mouthwatering grilled dishes for Php 450 nett per person every Saturday, from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM.
Internet Connection
Complimentary WiFi internet connection is available anywhere in the resort. Though it gets a bit weak in some areas and when inside the room, connection is good and stable. For someone who wants to be online, free internet connection is really an awesome treat!
Published Rates
You may visit their website at www.thefunnylion.com for the updated room rates. They offer several rooms types that cater to the diverse need of its valued guests. Occupancy is dependent on the room type booked. Standard check-in time is at 2:00 PM and check-out time is 12:00 NN.
Overall, we had an awesome stay at The Funny Lion! The resort's world-class amenities and facilities, personalized service and unparalleled level of comfort will certainly take every guest into a memorable and relaxing resort accommodation experience in Coron, Palawan. I'm giving it my 2 thumbs up!
