It's rainy season again. And what is the best thing to do during rainy season? Well... to eat!!! Hahaha! Yes, eating is also more fun during rainy season. And there's no better way to enjoy this season but to have some hot bowl of Sinigang.
What is Sinigang?
Sinigang is a Filipino Sour Soup dish and an ultimate comfort food that comes in many faces. It could be made from pork, beef, fish or shrimp. The souring ingredient could also be diverse; from the usual tamarind, to kamias, green mango, guava, calamansi, and many more. Whatever souring fruit is availble.
It's one of my favorite pinoy dishes. With this, let me share to you some of the best Sinigang Dishes I've tried in my travels around the Philippines.
1. Strawberry Sinigang
Served at Zenz Bar and Restaurant in Baguio City, their Strawberry Sinigang tastes like the usual sinigang, but the strawberries add a sweet-tangy and fruity flavor to the broth. It's sweet but still with the right sourness that I'm looking for a sinigang. I love it and best enjoyed on a cold Baguio weather.

2. Crispy Sinigang
Sinigang without the soup? The Perfect Pint's deconstructed Crispy Sinigang is quite interesting and a unique take on the traditional sour soup dish. They infused the rice with sinigang flavor and then topped it with crispy pork and served with crispy kangkong on the side. This dish is part of their lunch specials and it is definitely a must-try!

3. Slow Roasted Pork Sinigang
One of my favorites at Cintai Corito's Garden's Abadi Restaurant is their Slow Roasted Pork Sinigang. Tender Pork belly with white radish, string beans, and taro in flavorful Tamarind-Taro broth. Yummmmm!!! Perfect for the cold weather of Balete, Batangas!

4. Sinigang na Bangus sa Bayabas
Honestly, I don't like Sinigang sa Bayabas, but Bistro Remedios' Sinigang na Bangus sa Bayabas is good. The flavor of the guava is not too much. This is a must-try when dining at Bistro Remedios in Malate, Manila.

6. Pangat na Ulang Sinigang
This isn't your ordinary sinigang na hipon; rather, it is fresh water prawns or ulang in sour broth. The dish was served straight out of the bamboo stalk where it was cooked. It has the the right sour taste and the juicy prawn is tender and so flavorful.

7. Sinigang de Rojo
This is Patio Pacific Boracay's version of Sinigang sa Pakwan. It is still the usual Sinigang where tamarind was used to make it sour, but with a twist. They added watermelon which gives this Sinigang dish a flavorful taste.
