Known as the "World's Oldest Chinatown," Binondo in Manila is best experienced with an awesome gastronomic adventure. Few weeks ago, we were invited by Tralulu to experience their Binondo Food Crawl experience. It was one memorable afternoon where we had so much fun, got to taste lot Chinese food, and get to know Binondo even more.
Aside from bargain shopping, Binondo should definitely be on top of your list when planning a food trip in Manila. For hassle-free food trips, you may book this experience with Tralulu and have an ultimate Binondo food trip! Don't just take my word for it, experience it for yourself!
Here are my top 5 Reasons Why You Should Experience Tralulu's Binondo Food Crawl:
1. Awesome Tour Guide
For this tour, we had Andrew as our local guide. Being a Filipino-Chinese born in Binondo, he really knows a lot about the place, the food, and the ins and outs of Binondo. He shared to us a lot of information about the culture and traditions of the Chinoys, and graciously answered almost everything we asked him.
True to their word, Tralulu gives you the opportunity to not just travel, but become one with the locals you're with. It was fun and memorable tour with Andrew.
2. Delicous Chinese Food
On this Binondo Food Crawl, we tasted Chinese-style fresh lumpia, sampled on dumplings, siomai and hakaw, sip on a hot bowl of noodles, snack on fried siopao, and end it with mouth-watering fusion desserts. My favorites are definitely the lumpia which I have tasted for the first time, the dumplings and the desserts which are really good! I'm surely going back to Binondo anytime soon and enjoy the rest of the cuisines that Binondo has to offer.
3. It's more than just the usual Binondo Food Tour
Having a local guide gives you a better insight of the place you're visiting. So, aside from the food tour, we also had a chance to roam around the different streets of Binondo in between the food stops. While walking around, we would stop on different interesting and historical spots and our local guide would tell us stories and interesting information about them.
My favorite would definitely the time when we climbed the rooftop at the 30th floor of a tall building and had a 360-degrees view the City of Manila - a view point not everyone is lucky to see. Here, we saw the Manila City Hall, the Binondo District, Quiapo, Pasig River, and a lot more.
4. Value for money
For only 950 pesos per person, you'll get to have a local experience of Binondo, Manila. The food, the different spots around Binondo, a glimpse on the Filipino-Chinese's rich culture and traditions, what else can I ask for? It's definitely worth every peso spent.
5. Help Local Guides
By joining Tralulu's tours, you also join them in their advocacy of helping local tour guides. They connect travelers to local guides in the Philippines and in South East Asia who can provide authentic local experiences. By this, you don't just experience a local tour, but also get to be one with the locals.
This Binondo Food Crawl is ideal for families, group of friends, or with your special someone. I also recommend it if you want to bring your balikbayan and foreign friends on a food tour in Manila. It's an awesome and memorable experience that they will surely enjoy!
