Pinoy Festivals : Sinulog Festival 2011 in Cebu City
The Sinulog festival is one of the grandest and most colorful festivals in the Philippines with a very rich history. The main festival is held each year on the third Sunday of January in Cebu City to honor the Santo Niño, or the child Jesus, who used to be the patron saint of the whole province of Cebu (since in the Catholic faith Jesus is not a saint, but God). It is essentially a dance ritual which remembers the Filipino people’s pagan past and their acceptance of Christianity.

I love Cebu! It's my hometown actually but I never really got to appreciate it until I relocated. Now I dream of traveling to Cebu all the time. I wish I could attend Sinulog but sadly I just spent a lot of cash for my Christmas vacation there. Oh well, there's always next year :)
ReplyDeletethere's no place like home...cebu is the best...just miss this event for this year because im in other country now...cebu rocks!!!
ReplyDeleteI agree, Cebu is nice... Given I chance, I would love to settle in Cebu, if ever work wants me to stay to Cebu, I will do it... It's just like Manila... =D
ReplyDeletesana maka pag perform din ang dinagyang and ati-atohan sa sinulog as one of the contingent. iiasa lng naman ang ipinag aalalayan eh si Sto. Nino.
ReplyDeletesa tingin ko hindi kailanman maging guest ang ati-atihan at dinagyang sa sinulog and vice versa kasi these are MAJOR FESTIVALS in the country at pag sinabi mong major, it entails a lot of preparations like religious rituals and traditions that are being done before the BIG EVENT. Also, because these are major festivals in the country, hindi basta2x lumalahok yan ng ibang festivals kasi sikat na sila, bat pa sila lalahok sa iba diba and para na rin makapag-draw ng maraming turista sa kanilang mga lugar. Kaya nga inilipat ng iloilo ang petsa ng dinagyang sa 4th sunday of january from what was originally 3rd sunday of january together with ati-atihan and sinulog so as to have a mark and identity of its own at para na rin yung mga taong naki-fiesta sa ati-atihan at sinulog eh pagkatapos nun ay pupunta na naman sa iloilo para sa dinagyang. tourism strategy yan.
