Marinduque - Heritage Houses in Boac

If you've been following my site for some time now, you probably have noticed that I'm quite fascinated with heritage houses. I've seen heritage houses in my previous trips to Vigan, Ilocos Sur (2005), Silay City, Negros Occidental (2010) and Taal, Batangas (2011). From then on, I feel certain awe when I see the houses - especially when they are well preserved. But sometimes, reality bites when some of these ancestral houses are not taken cared of. It's disheartening to see old houses being torn down or left until its dying days.

On my trip to Marinduque last April for the Moriones Festival, one of the things I am expecting to see were the heritage houses that proudly stands in downtown Boac. Although I only found one house with a National Historical Institute (NHI) marker declaring it a heritage house, it is still a feast to my eyes seeing a handful of well-preserved houses lined up on the streets.

Since they are located in the downtown area, most of it have already been converted and made the ground floor a commercial space. But still, most of the houses are well taken cared of. Here are some of the photos I took randomly.

I feel certain happiness seeing heritage houses. I probably might have lived in one of these houses in my past life. Hahaha!

  1. Mukhang nagiging heritage site fanatic ka na rin, hindi na ako magtatakang malaman na dati kang mayaman na haciendero at merong isang magarbong bahay na bato sa past life mo ;)
