WHERE DO YOU WANT TO GO?

Southern Leyte - Zip Southern Leyte, the Country’s Longest, Highest and Steepest Dual Zip Line

Zip Southern Leyte, is the first dual zipline in Eastern Visayas region. Located at the tallest bridge in the Philippines, Agas-Agas Bridge provides a thrilling experience for brave souls wanting some heart pounding ziplining adventure. Opened last April 11, 2011, it is a tourism project of the provincial government of Southern Leyte in partnership with some private organizations.

At 880 meters, (I think) it's the country’s longest, highest and steepest dual zip line. A lot of superlatives huh? But it's true! With it's steep angle of decent, the average ride duration is just 30 seconds, depending on your body weight. Speed could also reach up to 110 KPH. Woohoo!

Zip lines, as an extreme sport, have become popular in the country for the last five years. Dare devils crave for more thrill and adventure as they finish each one of the "so many" zip lines around the country. I am one of those. Hehehe!

The launch pad of the zipline sits on top of the hill at one end of the bridge. It is 20-meters higher than the bridge. We climbed thru the stairs and paid for the ride fee of 280 pesos. The staffs put on our safety gears and we were readied to take the ride of our lives. Wahhhhh!!!

I am so happy to have riden the zip line and fly above the Agas-Agas Bridge. I admit, I'm more scared with this than the one in Dahilayan Adventure Park. Zip Southern Leyte is definitely much steeper. The steepest I've ever riden. The wind gusts against my face is harder as I glided so fast above the bridge.

Other facilities for extreme sports enthusiats are set to follow, like bungee jumping, paramotor, downhill skateboarding, and rappelling. Hope to try these next time! :)

The Agas-Agas Adventure Park is just one of the major tourism attractions being developed in the province. It also includes a Canopy Walk in Silago's virgin forest, a Theme Park and ZooLeyte in Danao Forest Park in Maasin City, and dive sites in Napantao Marine Sanctuary, in Napantao, San Francisco (along Sogod Bay). Thus, Southern Leyte is now dubbed as “The Playground of Eastern Visayas”.

HOW TO GET THERE
From Tacloban City, take a van bound for Maasin, Southern Leyte. Tell the driver to drop you at Mahaplag crossing. Fare is 150 PHP and travel time is 1.5 - 2 hours. From there, hire a habal-habal for 300 pesos (2-way) going to Agas-Agas bridge. Travel time is around 30 minutes.

This is a part of my Leyte and Southern Leyte Adventure Getaway last October 1-2, 2011. Southern Leyte is the 40th province on my list. Indeed, this trip made me realize that there's more to Southern Leyte other than the typhoons and landslides. It also made me experience its innate provincial beauty that is undoubtedly worth traveling for. Join me as I experience Southern Leyte!

  24. It's not the longest and highest. Longest and highest in ASIA is in Hoyohoy, Tangub (20 mins. away from Ozamiz City) in Mis. Occ. More than 2 kms. long and 2700ft. high. I've zipped there and live in Ozamiz. Awesome!!! Trees are so small LOL.
    A thrill of a lifetime.

  25. @Anonymous - Hi! thank you for the comment... based on my readings on the net, Hoyohoy's zipline is a single zipline... it may be longer than Agas-agas' but still Zip Southern Leyte is the longest "DUAL" zipline that I know as of this writing... thank you... :)

  26. Nice!
Claiming the title of Asia's longest dual zipline from Dahilayan Park's Zipline.

Based on the pictures, it sure looks steeper than the Bukidnon zipline! hopefully we can try it too!

  28. question ulet, hehe sabi mo sa isang blog mo From there, hire a habal-habal for 300 pesos (2-way) going to Agas-Agas bridge. Travel time is around 30minutes.

300 each? Or ilang kasya sa habal habal? Punta na kasi ako next week e..Thanks!

    1. kasya ang dalawa sa habal-habal... 300 is for the whole habal-habal... so kung mag isa ka lang, you still pay 300 pesos..

  30. Mervz, i am going to Tacloban next week. would you know if agas-agas park is near calicoan island?

    1. sobrang malayo cya.. i think Guiuan in Eastern Samar is the jump-off to Calicoan...

  31. Agas-Agas is in Southern Leyte while Calicoan island is in Samar. It takes roughly 3 hours v-hire ride from Tacloban City to Calicoan island. Going to Agas-agas (from Tacloban city) also take a 3 hour ride.
