The province of Nueva Vizcaya is well-known for its citrus fruits. Its rich farmlands boast to produce high quality citrus products which makes them proudly call themselves "The Citrus Capital of the Philippines". Citrus production in the province can be found in the highlands of Kasibu, a municipality favored with climate and soil suitable for the production of citrus fruits.
The citrus fruits are being sold along the high-way in the town of Bayombong (between the town propers of Bayombong and Bambang). I made a quick stop at the stores lined up on the side of the road to check the fruits they offer.
Upon asking the sales ladies, I learned that the fruits that they sell comes from different parts of the region. Their Satsuma and Pomelo for example, comes from Kasibu, Nueva Vizcaya, the Oranges are from Sagada, Mountain Province, the Honey Dew are from Isabela and the Yacon were havested from Quirino province.
I was intrigued with their seedless Satsuma as this is the first time I heard of it, so I bought a kilo for 50 pesos. Yummy! I highly recommend that you drop by here and bring home some citrus fruits from Nueva Vizcaya.
HOW TO GET THERE
From Manila, take an air-conditioned bus (Florida Bus Lines, Baliwag Transit, Victory Liner, etc.) bound for Cagayan Valley, it passes by the province of Nueva Vizcaya via the Maharlika hi-way and get off at the town of Bayombong. Travel time is approximately 6 hours by land from Metro Manila.
This is part of my 3-day trip to the provinces of Nueva Ecija, Nueva Vizcaya, Quirino and Isabela that happened last March 2-4, 2012. Join me as I explore the cultural treasures and interesting sights of Nueva Vizcaya, the 55th province on my list! | |
