Nueva Vizcaya - San Vicente de Ferrer Church in Dupax del Sur, a National Cultural Treasure

Considered as well-preserved church complex in Nueva Vizcaya, San Vicente de Ferrer Church in Dupax del Sur is among the town's best preserved Spanish colonial monuments. Constructed in the 18th century by the Dominican order, it is one of the oldest stone churches in Northern Luzon and was declared a National Cultural Treasure.

It has an impressive facade and features a 4-storey bell tower made of red bricks. It also has a well manicured courtyard surrounded by some old acacia trees.

Adjacent to the church is what is regarded as the oldest acacia tree in Luzon. Said to be planted in 1880 by early settlers from the nearby province of Nueva Ecija.

HOW TO GET THERE
Air-conditioned buses (Florida Bus Lines, Baliwag Transit, Victory Liner, etc.) bound for Cagayan Valley pass by the province of Nueva Vizcaya via the Maharlika hi-way. Get off at Bambang junction and rent a tricycle to Dupax del Sur (PHP 90 / way). Travel time is approx. 6 hours by land from Manila.

This is part of my 3-day trip to the provinces of Nueva Ecija, Nueva Vizcaya, Quirino and Isabela that happened last March 2-4, 2012. Join me as I explore the cultural treasures and interesting sights of Nueva Vizcaya, the 55th province on my list!
