After exploring Sagada for 2 days and 2 nights, we left the hostel early in the morning to get to our next destination - Tinglayan in the province of Kalinga. But before getting there we have to pass through the town of Bontoc, the capital of Mountain Province. We need to be there early so we could catch the first bus trip to Tabuk.
We rode the jeepney in Sagada town proper bound for Bontoc.
We reached Bontoc town proper at around 7:00 AM. We proceeded to the Mountain Province State Polytechnic College where the bus terminal bound for Tabuk is. Since the bus will not leave until 8:30 or 9:00 AM, we decided to roam around.
We went to the capitol building and provincial plaza where we learned that there is an on-going Agro-industrial trade fair. The plaza is full of merchants selling different local produce.
The atmosphere is very lively as the people are so busy preparing for the parade in celebration of the Bontoc's 45th Founding Anniversary and Lang-ay & Cultural Festival. Good thing we came here today as we we’re able to witness it. Here are some of the photos.
At around 8:45 AM, the parade was finished and we hopped in to the bus that left at around 9:00 AM.
We wanted to stay longer but we have to leave for our next destination. Maybe next time we'll be able to see and experience more of Bontoc. We're just so happy to have witnessed the parade in celebration of Bontoc's 45th founding anniversary.
This is part of my Holy Week and Araw ng Kagitingan long weekend holiday trip in Ifugao, Mt. Province and Kalinga last April 5-9, 2012. Mountain Province, a landlocked province in the Cordillera Administrative Region is the 59th province on my list. We enjoyed the peace and serenity of Sagada and Bontoc, its rusty idyllic atmosphere, cool climate and most especially, the friendliness of the people. Join me as I continue my journey to visit all 80 province in the Philippines! | |

We also passed by Bontoc while en route to Banaue. Bontoc is very much different from Sagada. Bontoc is much modern as a town proper compare to Sagada but farther than other nearby places.
