WHERE DO YOU WANT TO GO?

Kalinga - En Route to Tinglayan

After wandering around Bontoc where we visited some interesting sites and witnessed the parade during the Lang-ay Festival, we hopped into the bus bound for Tabuk in Kalinga province. It will pass by the town of Tinglayan where we plan to spend another night. The bus is full of locals and foreigners heading to their destinations. It’s good to see foreigners exploring not just the usual tourist attractions in the Philippines but also the remotest villages.

While on the road, I remember chatting with a Spanish backpacker one time at the airport. He's been traveling around the northern Philippines for almost a month and he was telling me stories about his trips to Europe, specifically Amsterdam in Holland. He even suggested checking on Amsterdam hotels on sites such as venere.com if ever I plan a visit. I was amazed by his experiences in Amsterdam! Whoa! Seeing the windmills and Holland tulips have been a childhood dream! Hopefully someday I'll be able to spend a holiday there; perhaps after visiting all the 80 provinces in the Philippines.

Then I directed my attention at the window to enjoy the lovely sceneries around. Rice terraces, mountains, rivers and breathtaking waterfalls can be seen from a far. The road to Tinglayan, Kalinga is truly captivating! I wonder if Amsterdam also has this kind of natural wonders. That I have to know soon!

The marvelous landscape continued to paved and unpaved roads. For me, this is one of the most perilous roads I've ever passed through. The driver must be very good in navigating the road because one mistake would lead to a disaster bringing us all falling into the deep ravine. Hahaha!

After more than 2 hours, we finally reached the village of Luplupa. We asked some locals at the roadside as to where Luplupa Riverside Inn is. They directed us to go down the concrete stairs and cross the hanging bridge.

This bridge crosses the mighty Chico River. It was quite scary at first as the bridge is moving while we were walking on it. But after a few meters, we got used to it. I just enjoyed the stunning backdrops of the mountains and villages.

We continued walking while asking some locals for directions until we reached Luplupa Riverside Inn.

Welcome to the village of Luplupa in Tinglayan, Kalinga Province!

This is part of my Holy Week and Araw ng Kagitingan long weekend holiday trip in Ifugao, Mt. Province and Kalinga last April 5-9, 2012. Kalinga, a landlocked province in the Cordillera Administrative Region is the 60th province on my list. Join me as I continue my journey to visit all 80 provinces in the Philippines!
