Pinoy Festivals: Ati-Atihan 2013's Sto. Niño Procession
One of the culminating events of the Ati-Atihan Festival is the procession of the Sto. Niño. More than a hundred images of the Child Jesus in dazzling and decorated floats paraded along the streets of Kalibo last Sunday, January 20, 2013. What sets it apart from the other Sto. Niño processions that I have attended in the past is that the event is so lively; the crowd are dancing to the beat of the drums and other percussion instruments.
The people brought out their Sto. Niños to join and dance at the procession. Everyone's dancing like there's no tomorrow. It is indeed a joyful celebration!
Together with my friends, Eric, Kirk and Ton, we were at one side of the street taking photos of the procession. It was fun fun fun! The beat of the drums is so inviting that we can't help ourselves but to dance.
In Ati-atihan, it is a common sight to see someone carrying a Sto. Niño in one hand and a bottle of beer on the other. So, as we were enjoying and dancing on the street as the procession passes by, somebody offered us a drink. He offered us Emperador na naka-lagay sa "Arinola" then you drink it with a "Pam-bomba ng Inidoro"! Wahahaha! That's how you do it! Ang Sarap! Bwahahahaha! :)
Kalibo's Ati-atihan Festival is indeed one of the liveliest fiestas I've ever attended! Viva Senyor Sto. Niño!
