Pinoy Holidays: When is the End of Ramadan (Eid’l Fitr) 2013 in the Philippines?

Unlike other national holidays in the Philippines, the End of Ramadan or Eid’l Fitr doesn't have a specific date. It is determined in accordance with the Islamic lunar calendar, or upon Islamic astronomical calculations or moon-sightings. Yearly, the government declares a national non-working holiday to give way for the celebration of the end of our Muslim brothers' and sisters' holy month of fasting. As of this writing, the government has not yet declared the holiday for the celebration of End of Ramadan but it is expected to fall on August 9, 2013.

According to Proclamation No. 459, s. 2012, Section 2, issued last year, "The proclamations declaring national holidays for the observance of Eid’l Fitr and Eidul Adha shall hereafter be issued after the approximate dates of the Islamic holidays have been determined in accordance with the Islamic calendar (Hijra) or the lunar calendar, or upon Islamic astronomical calculations, whichever is possible or convenient. To this end, the National Commission on Muslim Filipinos (NCMF) shall inform the Office of the President on which day the holiday shall fall".

MalacaΓ±ang is yet to announce the holiday. So, we have to wait until NCMF have formally determined the date for the celebration of Eid’l Fitr. This post shall be updated as soon as the government declares the national non-working holiday for the celebration of the End of Ramadan.

UPDATE

On August 1, 2013, MalacaΓ±ang declared August 9, 2013 as a regular holiday nationwide in celebration of Eid'l Fitr through Proclamation 629.
