After our morning walk along the long white sand beach of Dahican, we went back to our resort for our scheduled surfing lesson. We have arranged the surfing lessons with the resort's staff the night before and it was schedule at 9:00 AM. Our instructor is already waiting for us when we arrived. After a quick instructions on how to navigate and stand on the board, we went on the water.

I guess the month of June is not yet the surfing season in this part of Mindanao, the waves are kinda small and infrequent. It took us a while to do the first ride.

This is already my 7th time to surf, But still, I don't know how to spot a wave and when to stand. Hahaha! So I relied on my instructor's queue. It was a hit and miss, but so much fun!

Since our instructor also brought a skimboard, I took the chance to try skimboarding. It's my first time to do this and I wasn't able to properly do it. Hahaha! I don't know, for me it's harder to learn. I need more practice! :)

Surfing is a sport that I always try whenever possible. I need a lot of practice (and formal lessons) to really learn how to do it. You can read my past surfing experiences HERE.
I love this beach!
You could get surfing lessons at Botona Beach Resort or from the local surfers found in the "Amihan side" of the beach. It costs 400 pesos for an hour of surfing lesson. As for the skim boarding, I'm not sure for how much, we just try it for free. :)

so I gave it to him to say "thank you" for being patient to us. :)
How to get to Dahican Beach in Mati, Davao Oriental
From Davao City's Ecoland Terminal, take a bus bound for Mati, Davao Oriental. Air-conditioned Bus fare is around 250 pesos, travel time is about 3.5 - 4 hours. From the town center, take a tricycle or a habal-habal (single motorcycle) to Dahican Beach. Fare is around 40 pesos each and travel time is about 20 minutes.
This trip happened on June 8-9, 2012 during my "6-day Davao Region + North Cotabato trip". Davao Oriental is the 65th province on my list. COMPOSTELA VALLEY DAVAO ORIENTAL

ReplyDeletethanks sa chika sa dahican. ive always wanted to go tyhere since relatively malapit lang sya sa davao. and parang mas carry ko ata magtry ng skimboarding diyan kasi walang tao. so kung sumubsob ka man sa tubig/buhangin, carry lang. :P
any tips on accommodation dito sa beach?
korek! walang masyadong tao kaya pwedeng pwede mag aral mag skim boarding ng walang masyadong nanunuod... ahahahaha!

ReplyDeleteIts really an amazing place for me because I love surfing. I wish I will also be there someday and can enjoy this sport there. I like wind surfing mostly because it looks like we are playing with waves. I really want to try this and it’s very happening. I am really glad by exploring this site. Thanks
