When it comes to food, the City of Dipolog in Zamboanga del Norte is known for its Spanish Style Sardines. It is one of the things that travelers and tourists visiting the city are looking forward to bring home as pasalubong. It is one of their thriving industries which is evident in the many bottled Spanish sardines producers that can be found in the city. One of the most popular is Montaño's Spanish Style Sardines, "the home of the Best Spanish Sardines in Dipolog City".
Their sardines are cooked in vegetable oil (olive or corn) with salt, peppercorns, pickles and carrots and then bottled in clear glass jars. Each bottle of 228 grams or 8.05 oz, costs around 60-70 pesos, depending on where you buy. I bought one in the airport which costs 70 pesos each.
I know that bottled products are not allowed on hand-carry luggage, so I only bought 1 bottle to bring home. I didn't check-in my baggage and just hoped it can pass through the airport's x-ray machine without being required to check-in my baggage, or else I have to leave it there. Hahaha! Luckily, it was allowed. :)
My family loved the sardines that I brought home. Sad things is, I wasn't able to taste it. Hahaha! Naubos nila kaagad. LOL! But they told me that it is really good! There's no malansa taste and it's full of flavors. Pero sana natikman ko diba? Hehehe!
Anyway, I heard from friends that Montaño's Spanish Style Sardines are available in the supermarkets in Metro Manila. I have to buy one soon.

Next time you visit Dipolog City go to the Boulevard and try eating at "Magduko-duko". It's a row of stalls selling barbecue and puso (rice wrapped in woven palm leaves). The boulevard offers great sunset views.
