Cavite has several interesting and notable heritage churches. In this Visita Iglesia guide, let me recommend to you some of my home province's prides - our heritage churches, some of which played an important role in Philippine history. Visiting these churches in Cavite will not just give you a spiritual journey, but also a glimpse on some of the historical high points of the Philippine Revolution.

St. Michael the Archangel Parish
1. Bacoor Church
This church is located at the center of the city is dedicated to its patron, Saint Michael the Archangel. The parish was established through "cedula real" on January 18, 1752. If you're coming from Manila, this is the first church that you could visit.Location: Evangelista St. Poblacion, Bacoor Cavite

Our Lady of the Pillar Cathedral
2. Imus Cathedral
A Roman Catholic cathedral church in the city of Imus. It is also known as the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Pillar and the seat of the Diocese of Imus which oversees all the Catholic churches in the province of Cavite. The parish was established in 1795 in Toclong, it was then transferred to its current location in 1823. The church made from stone and bricks was built in 1897 through the supervision of Nicolas Becerra, parish priest of Imus from 1821 to 1840. 3. Dasmariñas Church
Also known as Immaculate Conception Parish Church, it is located at the city center beside the city hall. The church and convent is a historical site as it was the site of bloodshed during the Philippine revolution against Spain in 1897.Location: P. Campos Ave, Dasmariñas Cavite
Our Lady of Candelaria Parish
4. Silang Church
Established by the Franciscan missionaries in 1595, the first church was built in 1603. The Church was rebuilt in Stone from 1637-1639. It was dedicated to the patronage of Nuestra Señora de Candelaria in 1604. Don't miss the church's interiors as it is designed with beautiful examples of rococo-influenced retablos.Location: J. St. Gregory the Great Parish
5. Indang Church
Located in the town's poblacion, the Church of Indang is dedicated to the town's patron, St. Gregory the Great. Used to be part of Silang, it was established as a parish in 1625. Not to be missed in this church are its lovely interiors, the intricately painted old rose-colored trompe l'oeil paintings on the ceiling and the old "pulpit" which is the platform used by the priests whenever they preach.Location: Poblacion, Indang Cavite
6. Maragondon Church
First built by the Jesuits in 1618, a new church was constructed from 1630 to 1633, but was demolished between 1646 to 1649. The current stone building dates back to 1714. Also known as Our Lady of the Assumption Parish, it played a major role in Philippine history when it was used as the base of the Philippine Revolutionary Army in 1897 when Maragondon became the headquarters of the forces of Gen. Emilio Aguinaldo. In July 31, 2001, it was declared a "National Cultural Treasure" by the National Museum.Location: Col. Infante, Maragondon Cavite
Sto. Niño de Ternate Parish
7. Ternate Church
Established by the Jesuit missionaries in 1663, it is dedicated to the Holy image of Sto. Niño de Ternate. During the Philippine revolution against Spain the church was devastated and only the Holy image of Sto. Niño was left.Location: Sto. Niño, Ternate Cavite
Diocesan Shrine Parish of the Immaculate Conception
8. Naic Church
Considered as one of the largest churches in the province of Cavite, it is dedicated to the Immaculate Conception. Established in 1796, the stone church was built in 1839 by the Dominicans following the Neo-Gothic style architecture. Don't miss the intricately designed gold altar and the beautiful stained glass windows adorning the walls. Naic Church was declared as one of the Jubilee Churches of Cavite during the Jubilee celebration of the Diocese of Imus in 2011.Location: P. Poblete St., Naic Cavite
9. Gen. Trias Church
Established by the Franciscans in 1611 as a visita (sub-parish) of Cavite Viejo (now the town of Kawit). It was transferred to the care of the Jesuit missionaries 1624, until it became a a separate parish in 1753. It also played a part in our history as this is where "Banda Matanda" practiced "Marcha Filipina" before it was played during the proclamation of Philippine independence on June 12, 1898 in Kawit. San Francisco de Malabon, the former name of General Trias is in honor of its patron, Saint Francis of Assisi.Location: Gen. Trias Cavite
Holy Cross Parish
10. Tanza Church
Tanza church and its convent played a significant role in Philippine history. On March 23, 1897, Gen. Emilio Aguinaldo and Gen. Mariano Trias took their oaths as president and vice president of the Philippine Revolutionary Government after their election at the Tejeros Convention. Enshrined in one of the side retablos inside the church is a replica of the cross where they took their oath of office.Location: Poblacion, Tanza Cavite
11. Rosario Church
The town was named in honor of their patron saint Nuestra Señora Virgen del Santissimo Rosario de Caracol or (Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary). Known as the The Most Holy Rosary Parish, it is the shrine of a miraculous image of the Madonna and Child, said to be an early 1800s painting by a famous Filipino artist.Location: Ave Maria St., Rosario Cavite
St. Mary Magdalene Parish
12. Kawit Church
Established by the Jesuits in 1624, the first church made of wood was built in 1638 under the patronage of St. Mary Magdalene. The construction of the current church started in 1737 and was restored several times until 1990. Located a few meters away from the mansion of Gen. Emilio Aguinaldo, this is the church where the president of the First Philippine Republic was baptized in 1869.Location: Tanggulan St., Kawit Cavite

My suggested route is Bacoor, Kawit, Noveleta, Rosario, Tanza, Naic, and Maragondon... or Bacoor, Kawit, Imus, Dasma, Silang, and Tagaytay. There are three parishes and several seminaries/convents in Tagaytay that are open to the public for Visita Iglesia.
