Access to a clean toilet is one's basic need. We should consider that cleaner toilets would mean better health and better tourism. The size, appearance, maintenance and cleanliness of toilets should be a top priority and utmost concern, especially in public toilets. Sadly, there has never been a public toilet that I could instantly remember that I got impressed in tterms of cleanliness.
My requirements for a clean and sanitary toilet are very basic. It has to smell, look and feel clean, it should have enough supply of clean water and it has to be well lit. So, let me share to you the 5 Best Toilets I've used during my travels around the Philippines. My list is composed mostly of the toilet and bath rooms from the hotels I stayed at. In no particular order.
1. The Oriental Hotel in Legazpi City, Albay
The hotel's Deluxe room's toilet and bath has a shower enclosure with hot and cold shower (with rain head shower feature). Complete toiletries and bathroom amenities, including a hair dryer, are also provided. The body and hand towels all smell fresh! I was impressed. For me, it is very important to have a bathroom that is clean and well organized. The hotel did not disappoint me, from the sink to the water closet, to the shower enclosure, they are all clean.
2. Waterfront Manila Pavilion Hotel in Malate Manila
The hotel's toilet and bath is quite impressive. From the sink to the water closet, to the shower enclosure with rain head shower feature (and hot and cold water), they are all clean and well-kept. It is well organized and not too much clutter. Toiletries such as shampoo, soap and dental care are also provided. The floor is dry and the whole area is well lit.
3. Azalea Residences in Baguio City
Their toilet and bath have a shower enclosure with hot and cold shower. It comes with complete toiletries such as shampoo, conditioner, soap and dental care. The body and hand towels are all clean and smell fresh. The floor is dry and you really feel on your feet that it is clean. I couldn't ask for more, it's very impressive.
4. Go Hotels in Puerto Princesa City, Palawan
Although, Go Hotels is a budget accommodation, they never compromised cleanliness of their toilet and bath. It is spacious and very clean. From the sink to the toilet bowl, to the shower enclosure, they are all clean. It also comes with basic toiletries such as shampoo and soap and bath towels. And oh, I just love the rain shower feature (with hot and cold water) in the shower area!
5. The Henry Hotel in Cebu City
The hotel's toilet and bath is very spacious, well lit and definitely clean. There's a tub, an enclosed shower area, a sink with a huge mirror and all the toiletries and towels were also provided. The floor is dry and the it is well lit. A hotel's staff comes everyday to keep it clean. What else can I ask for?! I 'luv it!
These toilets should set as examples that cleaner toilets are essential for better health and tourism. I hope in my future travels, I will see more or even 1 million clean toilets not just in hotels and resorts I stay at but also in public toilets found in gas stations, bus terminals, airports and restaurants. Let's Join Domex Philippines' "One Million Clean Toilets Campaign" to Educate the Public on Basic Toilet Hygiene.
