You don't need to fly out of the Philippines to satisfy your Japanese cuisine cravings. Banzai, the great authentic Japanese buffet at SM Mall of Asia offers more reasons to celebrate any occasion and enjoy a wide selection of sushi, sashimi and rolls, teppanyaki, tempura and tonkatsu, yakitori, noodles and ramen, cold soba, takoyaki and more!
Set on an ambiance of authentic Japanese setting, Banzai is located at the SM by the Bay Leisure Park at SM Mall of Asia. It takes pride of being the country's largest Japanese buffet restaurant with a seating capacity of 500 persons.
For the whole month of October, Banzai celebrates the Yatai Street Festival, a daily dinner offering that brings the Japanese street food experience to the local buffet scene.
The Yatai Street Festival adds the yatai delicacies to their buffet spread composed of an extensive array of Japanese favorites made from imported ingredients, prepared and cooked the real Japanese way.
These Japanese Street Food are snacks and finger food traditionally sold at mobile food stalls (yatai) commonly set up along pedestrian walkways during Japan's matsuris or festivals.
Last October 8th, 2014, together with the other members of the media, we got to taste these yatai delicacies. They were set up in a way that resembles an actual yatai stall with wooden food cart festooned with graphic signages and loaded with a sumptuous selection of delicacies, much like the street food that are popular in Fukuoka, Japan.
Banzai's yatai features Niku Buns which are steamed buns with ground pork meat sprinkled with sesame seeds; Bacon Kani which are grilled Kani stick wrapped in bacon, Bacon Aspa which are grilled asparagus, wrapped in bacon, among many others.
Also not to be missed are the Squid balls with Nori which are deep fried Nori with squid balls, Kani Aunori Tempura made from kani sticks with aunori leaves and then deep fried with tempura batter, Pork "Mimi" Yakinuki which are grilled pig ears on stick, the Mutso which are grilled pork intestines, and many more.
Completing Banzai's yatai spread are Tamorokoshi (grilled corn with miso, butter and soy sauce), Dango Balls (sweet Japanese dumplings made with mochiko) and Hokkaido Ice cream (a mixture of Hokkaido milk with double cream). During weekend, diners also get to savor on Watame or the Japanese cotton candy.
The new yatai station builds on Banzai's existing street food offerings such as the Takoyaki, little balls containing pieces of octopus which is a popular street food from Osaka and the Okonomiyaki, the Japanese savory pancake.
Banzai's Yatai Street Festival will run during the whole month of October 2014. For more information, visit www.facebook.com/BanzaiPH, or follow them at their Twitter and Instagram account @Banzai_PH. You may also call 0916-3775357, 0999-4713597 or (02) 552-7368 for inquries and reservations.
