Boon Tong Kee is a popular casual dining family restaurant in Singapore. It was started by Mr. Thian Boon Hua as a small chicken rice stall in Singapore's Chinatown in 1979 and has gained popularity over the years. They are now here in the Philippines with branches located at SM Mall of Asia, Power Plant Mall, UP Town Center, and Tomas Morato. It's an ideal dining place for families and big groups wanting to have a taste of delicious Singaporean cuisines.
Just last month, I had the chance to dine at Boon Tong Kee at UP Town Center in Quezon City. It is located at the 2nd floor along with other restaurants. The restaurant's interiors has that classic black and beige furnishings which are very pleasant to the eyes. It is well lit, not crowded and has huge glass windows on both sides that let natural light in. The restaurant gave me a very classy yet relaxed feel.
Here are the dishes we got to try:
Prawn Toast
Crispy bread toast topped generously with bits of shrimps and green tea mayo. It was good! What a great way to start our Boon Tong Kee dining experience.Sambal Rice
I was really expecting a lot from their Sambal Rice as I heard it is spicy. But it's not. I guess it was tempered to Filipino taste to please more diners. It was still good but it could be better if they have an option where customers could choose the level of spiciness of the Sambal Rice.Fried French Bean with Scallops in XO Sauce
Served in thick, delectable and glistening XO Sauce, it has perfectly cooked and spiced french beans and topped with peanuts and scallops.Imperial Pork Ribs
Sweet and savory, the pork ribs is tender and very flavorful. I love it!Cereal Prawns
This is definitely my favorite! It has huge prawns covered with oat strings which are made from oat flour and tastes sweet with a hint of spice. It is definitely a must-try when dining at Boon Tong Kee!Signature Boiled Chicken
Don't be fooled by its pale, uncooked look. Also known as Hainanese Chicken, the chicken was cooked just right and eating the chicken alone was delicious enough. But you can add more flavor to it by dipping it in any of their 3 sauces – chili, sweet soy and ginger oil. Now I know why this is their signature dish.Baked Pork Buns
Served hot and freshly baked, these are golden crisp pork buns stuffed with juicy sumptuous pork inside. It is best eaten while hot. This is also one of my favorites!Overall, we had an awesome dining experience at Boon Tong Kee in UP Town Center. The restaurant's ambiance is very classy, yet warm and relaxing. The staff are pleasant, attentive and provides personalized service to the guests. Dining at Boon Tong Kee guarantees you of sumptuous Singaporean dishes using just the finest ingredients. Try it for yourself!
