Playa Azul Baler

Address: Bitong St | Barangay Sabang, Baler, Aurora
BOOK ONLINE: See room rates and book online
Guest's Comment:
"Playa Azul was an accidental discovery for us, since all the other more-known resorts were fully booked already on the dates we wanted to go to Baler. This hotel is a small, simple hotel which is beachfront. It is also located on the side which is quiet and peaceful (the other end of the beach I think is the “party side”, with loud music and a lot of people), so if you plan to go to Baler to relax, to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city, this is the right place for you.

Making a reservation is a bit informal: you call to inquire, and if you decide to push through, they’ll text you their account details so you can deposit 50% of the fee; after, email them a copy of the deposit slip, then they’ll text you that they received the email. I requested also for a reply/confirmation through email (I was expecting the email to include details such as the date of stay, inclusions like breakfast etc,) but they’ll just say they received your email. So if you’re used to booking with big hotels, you might get a little irritated, but since they’re relatively new, it’s understandable.

Check in was a bit slow, maybe because it was a long weekend, and there were a lot of guests. The check-in/reception area was also a bit small, so there wasn’t any formal queue for you to fall in line in and wait for your turn; guests instead just tended to crowd around.

Based on reviews I read, they recommended the premier rooms on the second floor as these were spacious, and had balconies that faced the sea, so this is what we booked. The room was indeed spacious, had 2 beds, and a clean bathroom (except for the glass beside the sink, which had small cobwebs). There were no cabinets though, so we ended up putting our clothes on top of the TV table/shelf. There was also no fridge, and no coffee/tea making facilities. I asked for a water heater since we brought coffee, and one of the housekeepers said she’d check if there was any more available. Fortunately I was able to get the last one. Water pressure in the bathroom was occasionally weak, and there were times I had to wait while bathing for the water to return. Brown-outs also occurred around 3-4 times during our stay, but they had a generator, so there’s nothing to worry about. Plated breakfast was included in the room rate, and was pretty good.

They generally serve good food; we enjoyed the buffalo wings, pork sinigang, prawns and bulgogi salad. The blue marlin ala pobre was a bit overcooked though, and the beef salpicao was a bit sour for our taste.

The staff were all courteous and helpful, but I’d like to particularly single out the manager, Aika, who was always walking around, making sure you had whatever you needed and that all our requests were attended to. Despite the mild inconveniences mentioned above, we're glad we discovered Playa Azul, and if we find ourselves in Baler again, I’m sure we’d find our way back here." -crystalblue74

Luxus Residencia de Baler

Address: Brgy Suklayin, Baler, Aurora
BOOK ONLINE: See room rates and book online
Guest's Comment:
"Luxus Residencia de Baler feels like a manor house of your long lost rich grandparents or as they say in tagalog, bahay ng mayaman na lolo at lola.

The property is just a tric away from baler central terminal and just a few more minutes away to get to the resort to sabang beach.
Yes, it is close enough to the city proper that you would feel you could get around to places easily and would not miss anything, but is far enough to feel that you are on a more private and intimate location.

First thing I loved about the place is it's ambiance. It doesn't feel like a generic resort nor hotel. If anything, it made me feel like a grandson to rich grandparents that wants to welcome me home, make me feel at home and tells me "you could stay as long as you want, everything is fine, we'll be taking care of you as long as you want" without the whole mushy awkward conversation you may or may not have with your own grandparents.

Speaking of ambiance, note for all the photographers, the ambient light on this property is just superb. One could get all sort of great shots just by pointing the lens even on the most common frame because of the quality of the ambient light it receives.

Following that, the second thing I loved about the place is its architectural design and quality. My words wouldn't be enough, it is better to see it personally with your own eyes.

Third, the water on the pool is clean. You may arrive at the property with a side of the pool with no water, which is because the management sees to it that every pool is clean, the water on it is clean and the pool does not need chlorine to be clean. There are about 4 or so sides to the pool, that even if the other sides are not accessible, you could just use the others, which is guaranteed to be clean.

Fourth, the management and the staff doesn't feel like just "employees" that was hired to take care of the property. They feel like long lost relatives and friends that you could depend on. Even just on the process of booking and asking for information, it would almost feel like a "too good to be true" situation. Don't worry, it is real. They are still learning but I trust that they would grow more and grow better.

The price tag may be higher compared to other lodgings targeted more for barkadas or surf-centric stays, but if you are looking for something more than just a lodging place after surfing at sabang beach, if you are looking for something that you want to take your special someone with and have a romantic time on baler, if you are looking for something that you could bring your family on a more private accommodation, if you are looking for something that is on a more quiet side of baler without traveling all the way out to cemento nor diguisit, Luxus Residencia de Baler may be the place you are looking for.

If you are worried about the images you see here or at their fb page, they just need an update and a more dedicated team to bring out the "luxury" the property has to offer. Trust me when I say that the current images(early may 2017) just scratches the surface of the potential it has.

For that, I'm rating this place 10 koi fishes out of a pond with a stone bridge.

A note for the ones who would commute via tric ride, remember the phrase/reference "malapit kela ben mata", it would help you immensely." -lean_mendieta

Seasta Beach Resort

Address: Cemento Beach, Baler, Aurora
BOOK ONLINE: See room rates and book online
Guest's Comment:
"The rooms are small but clean. Aircon was strong enough to cool the rooms. My only comment about the rooms that can be room for improvement is that they should put some window shades/curtains. Although the windows are small and high up, since you're stepping up into the room, it might be possible to be seen by someone standing in the veranda of the cottage.

The food was tasted great and was very affordable. For a party of 12, we ordered 9 dishes and just added extra rice. It was more than enough to fill us up. Very fresh seafood - we had lobsters, shrimps and marlin! We enjoyed the food!

The pool was nice and the water warm. Although the water was cloudy, I don't think it was dirty. The lights at night in the pool were colorful. The children enjoyed it. The pump was strong too so that the water in the jacuzzi area was very soothing.

Lots of places to hang out and just lie still and doze off. Plenty of hammocks and lounges.

Their beach front is actually corals so no swimming there but just a very short walk away is the port.

We will definitely be going back here!" -Frances D.

Nalu Surf Camp

Address: 57 A. Labasin St | Baranggay Sabang, Baler
BOOK ONLINE: See room rates and book online
Guest's Comment:
"I went together with my team (a total of 30+ pax) last July 8-9 for our Group outing within Baler. This is my second time going to Baler but my accommodation experience this time was way beyond expectation.

The first time I arrived during check in, I was pleasantly surprised by the nature-like soothing ambiance of the place. Check-in process was quite fast considering the big group we are as we booked 3 8-pax rooms and 2 4-pax rooms. Further, they were very helpful to our ultimate Boss who had to check in early while our team was out swimming at the Dimatubo Mother Falls. Front desk staff members were helpful and very accommodating. One of them was really very pretty - Sorry I just had to say this. LOL

Room accommodation looked great. Room supplies are provided for. Comfort rooms were clean. Good water pressure from the shower. Great TV reception. But there was not enough space to place our luggage particularly the Modern Nipa rooms. Further, though I love choosing the 2nd level on a double deck bed, I had to be cautious as the ceiling was quite near and a bit distracting.

Sleep quality is surprisingly great considering the group had little sleeping allotment as we had late night completion of team building activities and very early call time to catch the sunrise at Ampere Beach. In my case, even with my little sleeping time, I felt rejuvenated.

Food quality for the breakfast was okay. But some of my staff members were disappointed with the coffee quality. Let's just say our team collectively would be a bunch of caffeine lovers. I would have expected local brew (for which one local ground coffee bean was available in the souvenir shop within the town proper). Personally, I would have bought ice-blended coffee but it was not on the menu. Luckily, my favorite watermelon shake was available and it was great. (Part of me was shocked to see it was preserved by the fridge because I was expecting a freshly cut fruit which is the case for fruit shake stalls.

Location is the best. Beach front, near a lot of restaurant food choices. Since it is adjacent costa pacifica where there is a Pokemon Go Gym, I'd say it adds another dimension to its real world location.

Surfing promo was the best deal I have ever encountered. The team members who took the deal enjoyed the surf and the bonus beer was enjoyed by the drinkers - Red Horse and Pale Pilsen for the win! Our team got the surfing photos too. However, there was another surfing that I missed, and that is the internet as there was no free wifi. Within the vicinity of the camp, 3G signal was quite decent. I had to go near the beach area to get LTE.

Check out process was good too as they allowed our team for quite a bit of extension as we extended quite a bit at the Dicasalarin Beach / Cove. Our team coordinator had to request this extension over and over as we had enjoyed our time exploring Baler. Good thing they allowed us to do such without extra charge.

Overall, it was a great deal value for money so I am rating it 5 without any shade of bias. :)" -Demz_Pogi

The Easy Adventure

Address: Charlie's Point Reserva, Baler, Aurora
Guest's Comment:
"Driving from south of Manila, the 6-7 hours drive to Easy Adventure was such an adventure in itself! We used Waze app to guide us through our journey. The almost 75 km-stretch of zigzag road to get to Baler, Aurora, Quezon is worth it!

We decided on a Saturday, to proceed with the plan to try "glamping" at Easy Adventure the following Monday and it was initially a challenge getting through the right channel. We communicated via email beforehand but we confirmed our stay only upon our arrival from our overseas flight. The website has a number which is unanswered so we tried the number to be contacted when you are on your way to the place and need help with directions. This is where we got our contact window for mobile communications. From here, everything else was a breeze! I appreciate that they allow an exception on the payment terms as my Paypal account had a problem when I was settling the payment prior our arrival.

The camp was almost all to ourselves during our stay as there were only 8 guests, of which 5 are my family and I :-). Staff provided excellent service and support! Our lunch and merienda were awesome, but the same cannot be said about dinner. Breakfast was good. Bananas, water and coffee are free-flowing :-).

We explored the camp site and walked to the nearby Siesta hub where you get a good view of the nearby beach and the Pandan campsite which is probably the area they set-up for bigger groups. Both are empty while we were there.

The beach is quite near the camp - there is a walkway of a few hundred meters and the sand is black and hot! I was initially hesitant to go into the water, but enjoyed it later when I realized it is clear when you stay farther from the shoreline where the waves look big and the water looks darker.

The pillows and mattresses are so comfortable. Average rating for sleep quality is because of the heat! It was very windy outside the tent but the wind does not go inside the tent so we were sweating inside. I can't imagine how it would have felt like if we visited during summer.

At night, lamps are provided but it is good for only two hours so you can't keep it on all night. The toilet area is lit anyway, but there are frogs around so watch your step.

There is no soap in the restroom though there are toilet papers available. I have read comments about this while reading reviews about this place and I hope that they can consider leaving hand soap at the sink outside the restrooms. Clean towels are provided but it will be better if basic toiletries - bath soap, shampoo and toothbrush/tooth paste can be included as well. I've read that these are not provided so we brought our own.

There is no electricity - just a charging area, so if you come here to connect with nature and the people you went with, do not turn on your wifi :-). There is a wonderful area to meditate, try stand-up paddle boarding (I first tried sitting then they taught me how I can stand), rowing, chase the waves or simply, lie on the hammock and relax!

It is a very good place to just relax, talk and enjoy nature." -Inaliel79

Surfhouse Baler

Address: Alley 2, Buton Street | Barangay Sabang, Baler
Guest's Comment:
"with accommodating staff who respond to your needs easily, Surfhouse is a perfectly cozy and quiet place to stay, not to mention it's pet-friendly too, they also serve the best coffee (available at Press Start Cafe) since the owners also happens to be a coffee enthusiast. Not just clean, but I must say that they have the most beautiful bathrooms compared to other places in the area. Kickboard and common places for relaxation (like the 'Duyan' in the 2nd floor of Press Start Cafe which is personally my favorite) are available which makes booking at Surfhouse the best value for money. They also offer surfboard and fat bike rentals and surfing lessons if you're just starting to learn how to surf. It is truly a one-stop-spot when in Baler" -Chris S.

S.M.A.R.T. Beach House

Address: Querijero St, Baranggay Sabang, Baler Aurora
Guest's Comment:
"Spend our family summer outing just a couple of days, t'was a great experience to stay here in this resort, clean beach, comfy room, safe place accessible to market, town and souvenir shops and tourist spot. At first one of our room is not available yet when we came but not a biggie anyways. need to improve the water supply we've stay at the second floor water pressure is not good, dim light and aircon not so cold even nigh time." -Mj S

Bayler View Hotel

Guest's Comment:
"Check-in was easy and we were thankful that our room was on the first floor. I think we would have some trouble getting it up the flights of stairs if we got the higher floors. It was also nice to be on the first floor since it gives access to the water. I was a bit sad that we didn't have a window out to see the water and we were facing the corridor by the entrance. If you do get to choose, best to choose the ones that are further in the hotel, even without a view.

Accommodations were simple and sufficient for our family. The bathroom can be a bit tight but we made do. The water pressure was consistent though sometimes it can get a bit cold. The room can be tight for a family of 4 plus our nanny. Our luggage/bags had some trouble being fitted and I believe we requested for an extra bed so that added to it being cramp for us.

Food was so-so. If you go for the Filipino dishes, you will be okay and the pizza is really good but the service needs some improvements. Good thing that we followed-up and asked about our orders when we saw somewhat our order at the counter.
Breakfast was a lot better since we started out earlier than the rest of the guests...but as it hit mid morning, it gets a bit tricky.

Surfing site is perfect and I appreciate that they have a few instructors on hand to teach my son and I. They were patient and very encouraging. My daughter enjoyed the sand more than the sea but the beach front sand is not white. It is finer but still have some bigger stones just to note.

Internet is on-off but we had our data so we didn't feel it was that important.
Appreciated the hotel arranged some land tours for us that made us appreciate Baler even more.

For the price, I wouldn't mind to go back. I would try to rest for a room further in or nearer the sea or if ever, have a few that is not the inside of the hotel." -currant7

Hotel Motel Charlie Does Inn

Address: 12 Buton Street | Barangay Sabang, Baler
Address: Buton St., Baler, Aurora
Guest's Comment:
1) Well-worth the money! It's super affordable. Cheapest out of town trip I've ever taken.
2) Walk across the street, cut through any of the resorts (though you have to eat at the resort you cut through), and Sabang (one of Baler's beaches) is right in front of you. If you walk leisurely, it'll take less than 5 minutes to get to the beach. Do your surfing thing or just enjoy the water and sun.
2) No A/C but you won't need it -- the structure stays cool and the electric fans are enough; in fact, in the wee hours, I had to reach for a blanket. The structure was built with refurbished shipping containers and is kept cool by bamboo and nipa. It's an excellent example of tropical design.
3) Clean & spacious shower and toilet and bidet; hot and cold water
4) Clean room, fresh sheets & towels, clean smell, no roaches or other creatures invading your space or beds, sufficient outlets for charging your phones and whatnots
5) Our room had access to the peaceful herb garden at the back of the inn. We had our own deck where we did some cooking. You can bring a portable stove and cook your own food either in the communal area or at the garden in the back.
6) The managers (Alfa & Nalds) are friendly, accommodating, and decent and they don't invade your privacy.
7) There's a communal table at the center of the structure. There's another garden at the front of the structure.
8) If you need something comfortable, simple, and basic, this is for you.
9) No smoking in the communal areas, but you can smoke in the back where there's a garden.
10) Text instructions and signs have a sense of humor ;)
11) Take care of disposing of your trash. There's a garbage box at the front of the structure. Can I just add: please don't leave your litter on the beach. It's gross, lazy, inconsiderate, and totally stupid. -melotripper

Oceana Lodge

Address: 104 Buton Street, Baler Aurora
Guest's Comment:
"Rooms with access to the beach. Stayed here overnight with friends. Good that rooms were available to have early check-in as we were coming in early morning after a long drive from Manila. Fairly new place with nice beds and clean restrooms. Recommended place to stay with friends for a quick getaway from the city." -Marco C.

La Aniao Beach Resort

Address: Ermita Trail | Purok 7 Barangay Zabali, Baler
Guest's Comment:
"The place is 15mins away from town center and Sabang Beach so it cost 150php for 1 tricycle to bring us there. However, it was the perfect place to sit back, relax and enjoy nature. You can have meals, coffee or beer by the pool and beach, with the waves and stars as backdrop.

The staff were also very helpful and friendly. We brought food from town proper that they helped us heat and prepare.

The room and CR were clean and well maintained. Though they experienced power interruption while we were there, they had the generator ready so there was no hassle at all.

Would definitely want to go back." -Hazel S

Secret Spot Baler

"Family friendly hotel. I would highly recommend this hotel to my relatives and friends. The owner is very welcoming and the staff are accommodating. It’s a well-designed place with modern furniture and wall paintings. It has an ample parking space and big breakfast area. Bedroom was spacious and warm, just perfect for the cold weather outside. The best part is it’s close to the beach!" -Nehj18

"Secret spot is extremely chill. It's perfect for those who can rough it. So if you're the kind who needs a toilet bowl with a seat and a modern flush, look elsewhere.

This place is great for those serious about learning to surf. Great waves nearby that isn't crowded by newbie surfers. It's also convenient that surf instructors have a hut in front of Secret Spot.

They have very basic rooms. If your going with your buddies, I suggest to get the aircon room. You'll have two beds good for 4 people, your own comfort room, a hammock and a porch to hangout at.

As for food, you can pay a fee to have breakfast done from the caretaker at Secret Spot but you can grab a bite to eat at small eateries nearby. And if you're staying longer at secret spot, you can request the cook from the eatery just beside Secret Spot to cook it for you (that's of theyre willing) just pay her ahead so she can buy the ingredients from the market. I asked her for some steamed potatoes. Yummy!

All in all, it's a chill laid back place to stay and good for catching good waves." -JilliaRuste

Pacific Waves Inn

Address: Purok 2, Brgy Sabang, Baler, Aurora

"Rooms were adequately comfortable, anyway we're not peevish(mareklamo) as long as accommodations are decent enough... although annext 2 is not a seaside view.
Understandably it is long drive @ 5 to 6 hours from Manila to Baler... and like most summer spots during Holyweekend, the place was a bit crowded, ...but tolerable.

As expected the winds & the waves was high, strong, frequent and lots of fun... luckily during our stay it was cloudy with a bit of rain (sunburn was not a problem.) and like other sports, there is a certain slight risk of mild injuries during surfing.
I wouldn't recommend it for older folks especially those with injuries.
Overall It was a Great Vacation.. a bit tiring but worth it." -KISSoulRock

"The place was ideally located (beach front) and their food was amazing. You just needed to pay a hundred and so bucks for their buffet and it was definitely worth it. The room we got was non-aircon and even though it was really hot during the day, at night the temperature was perfect. The bathroom needed maintenance though but that's all I can say. Definitely worth the money." -riannedeleon
