The port city of Nice on the French Riviera offers a variety of attractions for those who are travelling on a shoestring budget. With a plethora of affordable things to do and see in the form of sightseeing at beautiful places, free museums, and a chance to try some fresh local delicacies, here is your travel guide to Nice on a budget of 200 Euros –

What to eat and drink

With a local bakery in every nook and corner, tourists are able to get baguettes for just 50 pence at Nice. Moreover, to be able to truly explore the culinary pleasures of this region at affordable rates, move away from the tourist traps and look for eateries that serve fresh Nicoise cooking. Avoid tourist pedestrian streets such as Rue de France and Cours Saleya and you will be able to find budget restaurants that serve exquisite soupe de poisson, croutons, cheese, homemade pastas and wines.

Located in the former Roman capital of the region, you will be able to explore the preserved ruins of the Roman Baths and 2000 year-old amphitheater here. For a taste of glamour, visit the L’Opera de Nice that has a classic western character complete with red velvet curtains and golden frescoes.

Enjoy ballets, concerts and operas here with tickets starting at just 8 Euros.

What to do

Although the beaches of Nice are covered in pebbles and not at all comfortable to lounge about in, you can drive down to the beautiful beaches of other towns nearby such as the Villefranche-sur-Mer and Antibes.

If you are looking to hike, you will find some of the best hiking trails beginning from La Turbie above Monaco and the Grande Corniche.

A must-visit place is Eze, a quaint hamlet located on a mountain, on the way to Monaco. For breathtaking views, the free cactus garden at Eze is a great place to visit. To know how perfumes are made, visit the Fragonard perfume factory here. Entry is free. Thronging with eateries, souvenir shops, and art galleries, Eze is quite commercialised but has retained its timeless charm all the same.

So, to embark on a fun-packed trip that won’t cost a bomb, opt for affordable car hire at the Nice Airport. Thrifty, the car rental agency offers some irresistible, pocket friendly deals for budget travellers.
