A LOCAL'S GUIDE TO DAVAO CITY: 8 tips and tricks for first-timers

1. Where are your most-recommended hotels in Davao City?

There are a lot of hotels in Davao City that will suit the type of traveler you are. For business and posh travelers, I suggest you stay at Marco Polo Davao, Seda Abreeza or Park Inn by Radisson. If you are on a budget, My Hotel, Hotel Uno, and Sampaguita Inn will surely fit you. If you prefer a shared accommodation, Hometel and Green Windows Dormitel (See Review) are your top options.

2. Where to eat in Davao City?

I highly suggest you try Lachi's. It's one of the must-try restaurants in Davao city. You can try their Asian Spicy Chicken, Callos and Unforgettable Ribs. Plus, don't forget to take a bite of their mouthwatering cheesecakes and sans rival. Aside from Lachi's you may also try Rekado for their delectable Filipino comfort food and Palovince Restaurant for their famous Tuna Pakfry.

3. Best places to visit in Davao City?

A visit to Davao City is not complete without seeing the Philippine Eagle up close at the Philippine Eagle Center in Calinan. Other places of interest are Malagos Garden Resort, Davao Crocodile Park, Museo Dabawenyo, the Bone Museum, People's Park and Eden Nature Park in Toril. Island Garden City of Samal is also just a few minutes away, it's a good place to beach bum, dive, snorkel and island hop.

4. What are the must-do activities in Davao City?

There are a number of activities you can do while in the city. You can do white water rafting in Davao River, zipline in Zip City or wakeboard at Deca Wakeboard Park in Mintal. Of course, if you're a food lover, you can do a food trip in the city.

5. What are the secret spots in Davao City?

It's not really a secret spot but I do suggest you visit the Garden of Eden Restored in Tamayong. For me, it's a perfect place to unwind and be close with mother earth. You'll definitely have a relaxing day when you visit the Garden of Eden. Do not forget to book in advance since they do not accept walk-in visitors.

6. How to get around in Davao City?

The most common modes of public transportation are jeepneys and taxis. Vans for hire can also be arranged when you are traveling with a group. Buses can bring you to other places in Davao region and the rest of Mindanao.

7. What are the best pasalubong to bring back home?

I highly suggest you bring fresh fruits back home. Fruits in Davao are relatively cheap. You can buy it from Magsaysay Fruit Stand, Bankerohan Fruit Market or at the Asian Fruit Market in Abreeza Mall.

8. Where to shop for pasalubog?

Aldevinco Shopping Center is the best place to buy stuff like local handicrafts, bags, dresses, etc. The Pasalubong Center on the other hand is a good place to shop if you want to buy preserved fruits and other pasalubong items.

I'll take you to a place where no one knows us and we'll spend a lifetime together.
