If you think you’ve been to the best hotels in Manila, here's another hotel that's perfect for your next family staycation or business trip to the Philippines' capital city. Sofitel Philippine Plaza Manila is one luxury hotel in Manila that I’ve been wanting to stay at for a long time. I haven't experienced its famed luxurious accommodation until I stepped foot in this iconic hotel in Manila in August this year.
Sofitel Philippine Plaza Manila is an upscale bayside resort-hotel located right next to the Philippine International Convention Center, World Trade Center Manila and just 6 km away from Ninoy Aquino International Airport. With its proximity from Manila’s business and entertainment districts, it makes an ideal place to stay for business and leisure travelers visiting Metro Manila.
The Sofitel Manila is one of the world’s best 5-star hotels and certainly one of the Philippines’ icons of luxury hotels; you’ll realise as soon as you step into the grandiose lobby. Upon arrival at the hotel, we were warmly welcomed by their cheerful and genuinely accommodating staff at the lobby and were ushered to the comfortable reception area.
We then proceeded to the reception area to check-in. But since our booked room hads complimentary club lounge access, we were escorted by one of the staff to the Club Millesime for quick and easy check-in. Checking-in was fast, it took us less than 10 minutes and we were given the electronic key cards to our room.
Luxury Room
As part of Accor Hotel’s world-class chain of hotels, you know to expect only the finest service and most well-kept facilities during your stay. Upon entering our room, I could certainly feel and smell its freshness and cleanliness. Our booked Luxury Room (check rates online) was spacious, clean, well-kept and showcased French elegance and Filipino craftsmanship. It was highlighted with a comfy king-size bed that featured high-quality and fresh white sheets, a luxurious duvet and very fluffy pillows. I tried it right away and I could really feel that the bed certainly offers an overall relaxing sleep experience which every guest truly deserves.
The room is also equipped with high-end and state-of-the-art amenities such as a centralized air-conditioning, a spacious executive work desk with lamp and wireless telephone unit, a 32-inch cable TV with Pay-per-view movies, a breakfast nook and a mini-bar with coffee and tea making equipment and refrigerator with complimentary bottled water. Also, it featured a built-in closet, mirror, an in-room electronic safe, hanging and luggage racks, complimentary high-speed WiFi access, among many other amazing room amenities. There's also a welcome treat of fresh apples, sweets and juice! Yey!
You’ll find the breakfast nook artfully tucked into a corner and adjacent to a full sliding door that opens to a private balcony with a splendid view of the swimming pool and city views unrivalled in Manila. This was also one of my favourite parts of our room as it lets me breathe fresh air while enjoying the amazing view of Manila Bay's famed sunset.
When I checked on the toilet and bath, I was impressed! It was spacious and very clean! It had a separate shower area with high-pressure hot and cold rain shower, luxurious bathtub and a lavatory with huge mirror.
For me, it is very important to have a toilet and bath that is clean and well-organized. Sofitel Manila did not disappoint; from the sink to the water closet, to the shower area, they are all clean and well-kept. A luxury bath kit by Lanvin toiletries from France such as shampoo, bath gel, conditioner, bath soap and body lotion were also provided. To swath yourself in after a refreshing shower, soft and thick body and hand towels, as well as bathrobes are just hanging right at the corner for you to enjoy. I loved it!
Hotel Facilities and Amenities
Like every 5-star hotel where you’ll find lush accommodations and exemplary service, what sets Sofitel Manila apart are their wide array of luxurious hotel amenities and facilities (read reviews). Unwind by the expansive swimming pool where a row of sun beds by the bay are available for chilling in day or night.
Sofitel Philippine Plaza Manila exudes a resort feel within the city and a luxe tropical feel that the whole family will surely enjoy.
Restaurants and Bars
You’ll have your raved-about international buffet breakfast at the stylish Spiral Restaurant that offers a delectable and rich selection of cuisines that will bring each and every guest an excellent gastronomic experience. But for other dining options throughout the day there’s La Veranda that serves drinks at night, Le Bar for high-end French dining including bread, wine, cheese and patisserie and Sofitel’s Signature Cocktails and French High Tea.
For a more relaxed dining experience, you may also check out the Sunset Bar which is an outdoor dining venue that features grilled barbecued specialties on Friday and Saturday nights. They also have Snaps Sportsbar, Club Millesime and Private Dining and Events Venues for a more exclusive and intimate affair.
Fitness and Wellness
Their Fitness Center is worth mentioning, not just because all the equipment is state of the art but it also provides a holistic, up-to-the-minute wellness program. And for relaxation? A trip to their in-house Le Spa will take all the tension and stress out of your system. We got to experience an hour of Le Spa's massage service and I could say that indeed, it delivers world-class wellness rituals in a unique spa experience. Le Spa is one of the best spas in Metro Manila I've experienced and I highly recommend it for you to try.

Overall, we had a relaxing and luxurious 2-night stay at Sofitel Philippine Plaza Manila. Luxurious and elegant rooms, breathtaking views, pleasant and sincerely accommodating staff, delectable food offerings, an array of top-notch hotel amenities and facilities, what else can could you ask for?

My son and daughter were so excited to book in this hotel when they knew I will be on vacation. And I was excited too, because they said this is a 5-star hotel with good breakfast buffet. But when we checked in at the second floor we were surprised of what a 5-star hotel room looked like! Its not even a 4- star.. Bedsheets crumpled, (we paid for an extra bed) and pillows smelled like old wood! Toilet, not so clean and no bidet!. We asked to be transfered, and it was in the ninth floor a luxury room this time? and again we were disgusted.. three single beds (we paid an extra one) white sheets not neatly tucked in. Though the room was larger and toilet with bidet, but needs more cleaning. In the morning when we went for breakfast at the “Spiral” we were told that breakfast is not included in our package! We showed our booking that it is included, they still have to double check!? We booked two months prior and yet they have to double check? We were seated and has to wait til they have double- checked! .. embarrasing! Ain’t it? Little later a lady employee informed us that it is included and we could start! INEFFICIENT indeed! Foods are so-so just enjoyed the fresh fruit juice and “taho”.. How I wished we could have stayed somewhere where it was Worth of what my kids paid in this hotel! SOFITEL- Manila.. MAV..
