The Province of Batangas is an awesome weekend destination near Metro Manila. It is home to lovely beaches, historical sites, churches, trekking sites, and nice hotels and resorts. One of my favorites is Lima Park Hotel in Malvar, Batangas - the only 4-star hotel in Batangas.
Just last weekend, we were invited by Lima Park Hotel to cover their annual Bisikleta Iglesia. Now on its 4th year, Bisikleta Iglesia took the bikers on a religious journey with scenic routes that started in Malvar, to the hilly winding roads of Balete, all the way to Lipa City.
This year's Bisikleta Iglesia 2017 was led by no less than the "Running Priest," Father Robert Reyes.
Rose Landicho, Lima Park Hotel’s Director for Marketing and Corporate Communications, shares that "Father Robert is an ideal pilgrimage leader as he is known for using sports to express his faith andadvocacies.“We are blessed because for the first time we are having a priest join our Bisikleta Iglesia. The participation of Fr. Robert Reyes no doubt makes this Bisikleta Iglesia more meaningful and inspiring.”
This year's Bisikleta Iglesia was participated by more than 150 bike enthusiasts composed of locals, tourists and foreigners. The youngest biker who joined this year is 11 years old and the oldest is around 67 years old.
Lima Park Hotel’s Resident Manager, Bong Evangelista Jr., says "this activity is also the hotel’s way of promoting fitness and ecotourism."
Being half Batangueño, it made me so excited to join this unique heritage and pilgrimage tour in seven churches in Batangas. Some of them I have visited before while the others are new to me. Here are the churches we visited.
Sto. Niño Parish Church in Marawoy, Lipa City
Sacred Heart Chapel in Marian Orchard, a pilgrimage site in Balete, Batangas
Divino Amor Chapel-Redemptorist in Lipa City where devotees of the Our Mother of Perpetual Help gather
Parish of Mary Mediatrix of All Grace, a religious site in Lipa known to Marian devotees
Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Monastery, famous for its mysterious rose petal shower
Metropolitan Cathedral of San Sebastian, which serves as the seat of the Archdiocese of Lipa. This church is so significant to me because this is where I was baptized in 1981.
Parish Church of St. Therese of the Child Jesus along Santo Tomas-Lipa Rd in Lipa City.
Two Stations of the Cross were prayed in every church and a reflection was also shared by Father Robert Reyes.
Thank you Lima Park Hotel in Malvar Batangas for inviting us! Hopefully next year, we could join again and probably join the riders in this unique holy week visita iglesia experience.
