An action camera has now become a necessity when we travel, especially in the outdoors. That is why, I always make sure that I bring a handy action camera whenever I travel.
Be it on the beach, in the mountains, enjoying extreme water sports, or just roaming around the city, an action camera should be one important item in your "things to bring" list.
There are many brands of action cameras in the market today. One of the newest brands that arrived in the Philippines is the ThieEye Action Camera.
ThiEYE is pretty new in the Philippines, so when they contacted me to try their action camera, I instantly said yes. For this review, ThiEYE sent one of their action cameras for me to test, the ThiEYE i60+.

So, after using the ThiEYE i60+ action camera in some of my recent travels in Manila and while I'm biking around Cavite, let me share to you the things I like and didn't like about it.
Here are the things I like about the ThiEYE i60+
Build and Design
Buttons are nicely placed and resembles the buttons of GoPro Hero 4 with the addition of the 2 buttons at the side. For someone like me who uses GoPro, you will not have a hard time on familiarizing yourself with the ThiEYE i60+'s buttons.
Photos
It takes decent clear photos. Colors are nice and realistic. I'm not expecting GoPro quality photos, but the photos it produces are quite good. If you edit it with a photo editor, you'll get much better photos. And with its 170-degree wide-angle field of view lens, it's ideal for capturing landscapes during travels.
SAMPLE PHOTOS (EDITED)
These photos were edited in Snapseed and/or InstagramSAMPLE UNEDITED PHOTOS
These are unedited photos that came straight out of the camera.Videos
With the 4K option, the videos taken with the ThiEYE i60+ are also quite good. Here's the sample video:
Multiple Modes
It features multiple modes such as time lapse, slow motion, photo burst, self-timer, looping record, and car mode.
Price
For the quality of photos and videos it produces and the accessories that come with the package, the ThiEYE is quite affordable and reasonably priced at Php 3,800 pesos.
Now, here are the things I don't like...
Mobile App
I think an update on the app should be done. The app doesn't work well on my iPhone 6. It works well when used to control the camera and configuring the settings but it doesn't work when you try to access and download the photos. Also, the ad that pops up when you open the app is so annoying.
Buttons
The buttons are hard to press when the camera is inside the case, especially the shutter button at the top of the camera. If you want to use it as a point and shoot camera, the photos will be blurry because the button is hard to press. The best way to do is remove the camera from the waterproof case or set the timer when taking photos.
Overall, the ThiEYE i60+ is a good option if you're looking for cheap and affordable action camera that takes decent photos and 4k quality videos.
