Dubbed as the "Island of Fire" or "Isla del Fuego" by the Spaniards, Siquijor is the 3rd smallest province in the Philippines, next to the island province of Camiguin and Batanes. Located in the Central Visayas region, it is bounded by Cebu island on the north, Bohol on the nortwest, Negros island on the west and mainland Mindanao on the south.
What to do in Siquijor? There are many things to do in Siquijor that makes it a wonderful tourist destination. A whole day of adventure is a good itinerary if you want to see and experience most of Siquijor's famous tourist spots and attractions. But if you want to truly experience the best of Siquijor has to offer, I highly recommend staying for at least 3 days and 2 nights. HOW TO GET TO SIQUIJOR?
FROM MANILA
- From Manila, take a 1-hour flight to Dumaguete City. Cebu Pacific Air and Philippine Airlines have several flights daily from Manila to Dumaguete City. You can search for cheap flights to Dumaguete City using the Traveloka App. Highly recommended!
- From Dumaguete City Airport, take a tricycle to Dumaguete Port. Standard fare is 100 pesos per tricycle and travel time is around 30 minutes. Alternatively, you can just walk outside the airport and take a passenger jeepney to Dumaguete City. Then walk or take a tricycle to the port. For short distances, tricycle fare is 8 pesos per passenger.
- At Dumaguete Port, take a boat or a ferry to Siquijor. Fare is around 130 to 230 pesos depending on where in Siquijor you are going to. From Dumaguete City to the capital town of Siquijor, fare is around 130 pesos. From Dumaguete City to Larena, Siquijor, fare is around 230 pesos. CHECK OUT HERE to book ferry tickets online.
- Upon arrival in Siquijor, you may take a tricycle or a habal-habal (Single motorcycle) going to your resort. You may also contact a tour guide with tricycle (see details at the end of this post) that could fetch you from the port going to your resort.
FROM CEBU OR BOHOL
Alternatively, if you are coming from Cebu or Bohol, there are also ferries from Tagbilaran (Bohol) and Cebu City (Cebu), that will take you to Siquijor.
Alternatively, from Cebu City Southbound Bus Terminal, you may also take a bus going to Dumaguete City. Take the bus going to Bato (via Lilo-an), and then transfer to a ferry bound for Sibulan Port. Upon reaching Sibulan Port, take a tricycle or a jeepney to Dumaguete Port and then take a ferry or boat to Siquijor. This is also a good chance to do a South Cebu Tour. FROM DIPOLOG CITY
You can also get to Siquijor by taking a ferry from Dipolog City in Zamboanga del Norte to Dumaguete City, then make your way to Dumaguete Port and take a boat or a ferry to Siquijor.
FROM BACOLOD CITY
There are buses from Bacolod City that will take you to Dumaguete City with travel time of around 5-6 hours. From Dumaguete City Port, you may take a boat or a ferry to Siquijor.

1. Go on a Road Trip
This is one of the best ways to explore the island of Siquijor. You can rent a motorcycle or a scooter that you can drive on your own (be sure to have a valid driver's license) or hire a tricycle with a driver/tour guide that will show you the best tourist spots and best things to do in Siquijor island. 2. Visit the Churches
Must-visit are the Church of St. Francis of Assisi in the town of Siquijor, the Our Lady of Divine Providence in the town Maria, and the St. Isidore Labradore in the town of Lazi - which was declared as a "National Historical Landmark" by the National Historical Institute.
3. Visit the old Lazi Convent
Along with Lazi Church, this was declared as a "National Historical Landmark" by the National Historical Institute and definitely a must-visit in Siquijor.
4. Enjoy a Fish Spa at the Centuries-old Balete Tree
Aside from being known as one of the oldest trees on the island, visitors will also enjoy the man-made pool with water coming directly from the tree's roots with numerous small fishes. Just dip your feet into the water and enjoy the fishes nibbling on your foot's dead skin.
5. Swim into the clear waters of Siquijor's Beaches
One of the best things to do in Siquijor is definitely to enjoy its amazing beaches! Siquijor has many beaches with clear waters perfect fro swimming and snorkeling. Must-visit are Salagdoong Beach in the town of Maria, San Juan Beach and Paliton Beach, both in the town of San Juan
6. "Fly" on a Broomstick
Have an illusion of like "flying on a broomstick" when you visit Hapitanan Cafe and Restaurant along Siquijor Circumferential Road in the town of Lazi. "Flying on a broomstick" is one of the wackiest and crazy things you can do in Siquijor! Don't miss it!
7. Swim at Cambugahay Falls
Cambugahay Falls is a series of multi-level waterfalls and is one of the many precious waterfalls on the island where most tourists go and enjoy the clear cold water. Here you can do the famous "swing like Tarzan" where you plunge into the deep waters of the waterfalls.

8. Walk through the Mangroves at Guiwanon Spring Park
Located in Brgy. Luyang, Siquijor, Siquijor, this hidden eco-park with lush mangroves is a good place to relax, unwind, and to just enjoy nature. This is one of the best things to do in Siquijor that any nature-lover will surely enjoy!
9. Watch Beautiful Sunsets
One of the many things to do in Siquijor that I truly enjoy is watching the sunset. On your trip, always end your day by just enjoying the sunset from anywhere in Siquijor!
10. Buy Pasalubong and Souvenirs
Love potions, herbal oils, voodoo doll souvenirs, t-shirts, peanut brittle (must-try!), ref magnets, key chains, and handicrafts, are just some of the nice pasalubong items and souvenirs you could bring back home to your family and friends. There are a few souvenir shops on the island. Some of them are located at the Old-Balete Tree area, Hapitanan Restaurant, and at the Siquijor Town Center. - Capilay Spring Park - a public pool along the main road with water coming from the springs.
- Mt. Bandilaan National Park - for that scenic and breathtaking views of Siquijor and neighboring islands.
- Lugnason Falls - located in the lush forest, this falls requires some treeking to see its beauty.
- Kagusuan Beach - one of the most remote beaches in the island.
- Cantabon Cave - takes abou 1.5 hours to explore. You need to register first and get a guide for you to explore this cave.
- Siquijor Port / Beach - this is a beautiful public beach that will greet you upon arrival in Siquijor.
- Larena Triad Coffee Shop - a coffee shop atop a hill that offers awesome views.
- Dumanjog Beach - another beautiful beach in Siquijor.
- Salagdoong Forest Reserve - a forest with picturesque canopy of trees located at the road leading to Salagdoong Beach.
- Island Butterfly Garden - a nature conservation center with a collection fo endemic butterflies on the island.

Hi :) I've booked a flight with my mother going to Dumaguete this May and was planning a day tour in Siquijor. I was sure to book the Klook day tour to avoid travel hassle for my mom, but when I saw Paliton Beach, I think it'll be worth the ferry transfer on our own since we've done it before Cebu-Bohol trip.
