UPDATED First-timer's Travel Guide Blog to Hong Kong 2024
My first time to visit Hong Kong was in March of 2017 with my family. I went back again in January and November 2018. This travel guide blog has been updated to include more information, new tourist spots and attractions we visited and things we did during our most recent trip.
Quick Facts about Hong Kong
Hong Kong means Fragrant Harbor and is officially a part of China. It used to be a colony of the British Empire until it was handed back to China in 1997. Today, Hong Kong is considered as a Special Administrative Region (SAR) of China which is allowed to operate as an independent country enjoying autonomy. As it has been developed through the years, Hong Kong is now considered of the richest cities and and important hub and top trading spots in Asia.
Located just a 2-hour flight from Manila, Philippines, Hong Kong is composed of several islands divided into different districts. Because of its proximity from the Philippines, it has been a major and favorite tourist destination among Filipinos. Here are the most common districts that tourists visit:
Lantau Island is the gateway to Hong Kong because this is where the Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) is located. This is also where you'll find Hong Kong Disneyland, the 934m-high Lantau Peak, and Ngong Ping where you'll find the Giant Buddha and Po Lin Monastery. Lying at the mouth of the Pearl River, it is the largest of Hong Kong's islands.
Kowloon Island is where you'll find many cheap budget hotels and guesthouses. Here, you'll also get to enjoy other attractions such as the Harbour, Avenue of the Stars, huge shopping malls, local restaurants, and markets. Composed Kowloon Peninsula and New Kowloon, it is an urban metropolis in Hong Kong where you'll also find many high-end shopping malls, bargain shops, skyscrapers, hotels, as well as the Mongkok Shopping District for cheap finds and souvenirs.
Hong Kong Island is quite modern with so many tall buildings and skyscrapers. But the Central area on the island is the historical, political and economic center of Hong Kong. It is also home to some of the top tourist destinations such as "The Peak", Ocean Park, many historical sites, temples, and different huge shopping centers.

Visa Requirements
Although part of China, Hong Kong has its own immigration laws and policies. Depending on your nationality or passport, you will need a visa to enter Hong Kong, or you may be granted a "visa on arrival" or visa-free entry privilege.
Filipinos visiting Hong Kong do not need a Visa to enter Hong Kong if you're traveling for tourism purposes. You just need to have a valid passport with 6 months validity left before expiration. Filipinos who wish to visit Hong Kong for transit, tourism, or business can stay up to 14 days visa free. Upon arrival, you need to fill-up an arrival card and give one of the copies to the immigration officer. The other copy is for you to keep which you will need when you exit Hong Kong - so it is important not lose it. Also, make sure not to overstay in Hong Kong. Overstaying in Hong Kong is a criminal offense and should be avoided at all cost. The maximum sentence is a fine of HK$ 50,000 and imprisonment for 2 years. So, be sure that your return tickets are within the 14 days visa-free stay.
Hong Kong is very strict when it comes to their immigration policies. Even in the Philippines, the immigration has been very strict for Filipinos leaving for Hong Kong as it is known for Filipino illegal workers. To avoid being offloaded or denied entry in Hong Kong, I highly suggest that you should have your return ticket, proof of hotel accommodation booking, as well as activities and tours vouchers (Klook activity vouchers), pocket money (if you have credit card bring it also) ready if ever an immigration officer asks you about the details and purpose of your trip.

How to get to Hong Kong?
FROM MANILA
Several local airlines such as Air Asia Philippines, Cebu Pacific Air, and Philippine Airlines fly direct several times daily to Hong Kong from Manila departing at Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA). Non-stop flight time from Manila to Hong Kong is around 2 hours 15 minutes.
FROM CEBU, DAVAO OR CLARK
Also, some airlines such as Cebu Pacific Air and Philippine Airlines have flights to Hong Kong coming from Cebu, Davao or Clark. Some of them are direct flights while most of the flights coming from these locations have a stopover in Manila before proceeding to Hong Kong.
ASEAN CITIES TO HONG KONG
Direct flights to Hong Kong from other ASEAN Cities such as Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur, Singapore, Jakarta, Ho Chi Minh, and Hanoi are also available.

FROM MACAU
You can also plan your itinerary as Manila - Macau - Hong Kong - Manila.
If you're coming from Macau, you could take a ferry going to Hong Kong. Travel time is about 1 hour and ferry ticket is around 1,000 pesos depending on your sailing time. Currently, there are two ferry operators you could choose from. One is the Cotai Water Jet and the other one is the Turbo Jet. Ferry terminals are located at Macau Outer Harbour Terminal on Macau Peninsula (nearer the city center) and at Macau Taipa Ferry Terminal located near Macau International Airport.

The ferry terminals in Hong Kong are located on Hong Kong Island and on Kowloon Island. If your hotel in Hong Kong is near Tsim Sha Tsui, choose the ferry the goes to Hong Kong China Ferry Terminal which is located at 33 Canton Road, Tsim Sha Tsui, Kowloon, Hong Kong. If your hotel is in Central area, take the ferry bound for Hong Kong Macau Ferry Terminal located at 168-200 Connaught Rd Central, Sheung Wan, Hong Kong island, Hong Kong. If you miss that, don't worry, you can easily go to Tsim Sha Tsui by MTR since the HK-Macau Ferry Terminal is connected to the MTR via Sheung Wan station.

How to Get Out of Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA)?
Going to your hotel in Hong Kong from Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA), you have several options. You may take the Airport Express Train, ride the Taxi, or take the Bus/Coach.
AIRPORT EXPRESS TRAIN
Taking the airport express train is the fastest way to get to your hotel in Kowloon or Hong Kong Island. Taking the train from the airport, you will arrive at the city center in just 24 minutes! That's how fast it is! Depending on your destination, it costs PHP 280.00 to Tsing Yi Station, PHP 463.00 to Kowloon Station, and PHP 492.00 to Hong Kong Station. Best of all, it also offers convenient in-town check-in service at Hong Kong Station and Kowloon Station. I highly suggest that you take the train for hassle-free travel from and to Hong Kong International Airport.

TAXI
Taking the taxi could be the most convenient way to get to the city center from Hong Kong International Airport. This is a good option if budget is not a problem and if you're traveling with senior citizens and kids because it will bring you directly to your hotel. But taxis are very expensive in Hong Kong, so I really don't recommend it.
BUS OR COACH
Taking the bus or coach is a cost-efficient and hassle-free way to get to your hotel in Kowloon, Hong Kong Island or New Territories. Best of all, it also provides amble luggage space so you don't have to worry even if have a huge luggage with you. For ease and convenient, book and reserve your tickets in advance.
PRIVATE AIRPORT TRANSFER
This is ideal and most cost-efficent way of traveling from Hong Kong International Airport if you're traveling in group. Conveniently book a shuttle service from Hong Kong Airport to the city and enjoy a comfortable travel experience! You can also book this service for hassle-free travel from the city to the airport.
How to get around the city?
In going around the city, our best friend and travel buddy is the Google Map. Whether taking the bus or the MTR, we just enter our location and our desired location and it will give us the ways on how to get there. You may also download the Hong Kong MTR Mobile App on your Android or iOS devices. It will help you a lot when using the MTR. Hong Kong offers convenient mass transportation system which is the MTR. Since most of the tourist spots and attractions in Hong Kong are near MTR Stations, this is what we take most of the time when going to the different tourist spots and attractions in Hong Kong.
For convenience, I highly recommend that you get an Octopus Card so you don't need to buy tickets every time you ride the train. You can also use it on buses, trams, and even in buying stuff at the stores or dining at the restaurants and fast food chains. You can purchase a Hong Kong Tourist Octopus Card preloaded with HK$50 via Klook.com. It can easily be reloaded at any 7-Eleven convenience stores in Hong Kong when you already consumed the load. Best of all, using an Octopus Crad, you get discount on every ride. Also, if you buy it through Klook, the card is yours and you don't need to return it after your trip. You can keep it as a souvenir.

Hong Kong Weather
Hong Kong enjoys a sub-tropical climate with four seasons: Winter, Spring, Summer and Fall. The summer months of June to August is the most humid season in Hong Kong. Typhoons and rains also happen during the summer months in Hong Kong from May up until November, with the month of August as the wettest. Autumn is from September to November up until early December, while winter is from December to February. Spring is from March to May, up until early April when the weather in Hong Kong is most pleasant. The driest and cooler month is in January.
Whenever I travel, I usually check the weather in my destination for me to know what should I prepare as well as the clothes I need to bring. Will it rain, will there be snow, or should I bring light clothes? I usually use my phone's built-in weather app such as AccuWeather to check the current weather in Hong Kong and forecast for today, tomorrow, and in the coming days. Using AccuWeather, you can access hourly, and 10 day forecasts along with up to the minute reports and videos for Hong Kong weather. I usually do this 1 week to 1 day before my flight.
When is the Best Time to Visit Hong Kong?
I've been to Hong Kong 3 times. The first one is in late March (Spring), then in January (winter), and lastly November (autumn). During our travel in March, we experienced very light occasional rains, and pleasantly cold weather. In our January trip, the weather is so cold, and you have to wear thick jackets every time you go out. On our travel last November, the weather is also cold, and light jacket is recommended. For me, the best time to visit Hong Kong is from January to March when there are less chances of rains, and the weather is often cool. Weather-wise and for you to enjoy most of the activities and attractions in Hong Kong - for me, the best time to visit Hong Kong is from March to May (Spring), November (Autumn) and December to February (winter).
The busiest time of the year in Hong Kong is during the celebration of Chinese Lunar New Year which is late January or until mid-February. There are more tourists, and hotel prices are high. I recommend that you avoid this season if you can.
How Many Days to Stay in Hong Kong?
Hong Kong isn't that big so 3-4 days would be enough for most first-time travelers in Hong Kong. For me, how many days to spend in Hong Kong for your vacation depends on the number of tourist spots and attractions you want to visit and activities you want to do in Hong Kong. For first timers, I suggest 3 full days for you to fully enjoy most of Hong Kong's top tourist spots and attractions. If you want to visit Macau as a side trip, 4-5 full days is good. But if you have limited time, a 2 full days is also quite good for weekend travelers, but I don't recommend it for first-timer. Below, I have sample DIY Hong Kong itineraries that you can follow. Just adjust or tweak it depending on your preferences.
Hong Kong Time Zone
Time zone in Hong Kong is observed at UTC+08:00 all year round. There is no time difference between Hong Kong time (HKT) and the Philippines (PST). Also, there are no Daylight Saving Time rules for this time zone.
Useful Cantonese Phrases
Cantonese is what majority of Hong Kong residents use. It's always good to know a few of them. Here are some basic Cantonese phrases that you should start learning and use it when traveling to Hong Kong.

- Thank you - Doh-je (sounds like door-chair)
- Excuse Me/Please - Ng-goi (sounds like mmm-goy)
- Good morning – Jou-sen (sounds like joe-san)

Where to Get or to Exchange Hong Kong Currency?
You can bring in US Dollars (USD) or Philippine Pesos (PHP) in Hong Kong and change it to Hong Kong Dollars (HKD) upon arrival in Hong Kong. As I always recommend, do not change at the airport because the exchange rate is terribly low. I suggest that you change to a few Hong Kong Dollars and change most of your money at authorized money changers at the city center.
Exchange rate is around 1 HKD = 6.64 PHP or 0.13 USD during our trip.
You can also withdraw from ATMs in Hong Kong. This is what I always do when traveling abroad. Just be sure to inform your bank that you will be withdrawing money from abroad before traveling to Hong Kong. Take note of the withdrawal charges per transaction (which varies per bank) and withdraw the maximum amount that you need to save on the withdrawal charges.
How to Stay Connected to the Internet in Hong Kong?
There are many free WiFi hotspots in Hong Kong. Although you can find it almost anywhere, these connections are not secures and very slow most of the time. I still highly recommend that you get your own internet connection.
To stay connected to the internet while traveling in Hong Kong, you can either rent a travel pocket WiFi or buy a local 3G/4G SIM card. Travel pocket WiFi is a good choice if you're traveling with a group because you can split the cost of the WiFi rental with your travel buddies. But if you're traveling alone, you can just buy a local SIM card as it is cheaper compared to the pocket WiFi.

Where to Stay in Hong Kong?
There are many hotels, hostels, and guest houses in Hong Kong. Finding cheap accommodation in Hong Kong is not a problem. For our previous trips in Hong Kong, we chose to stay at Tsim Sha Tsui (TST) area on Kowloon Island. It's the best choice for us because it's near the TST MTR station, restaurants, fast food chains, and convenience stores, money changers, shops, and almost everything we need are here.

Which one is the best?
Among these guesthouses, my personal favorite is Urban Pack Hostel (see room rates). The rooms are clean, and the location is superb. Next is Hao's Inn which is also located in Tsim Sha Tsui. The room is quite spacious (based on Hong Kong standards) and one of the staff is a Filipino - she's very helpful and nice. Our Hong Kong trip is mostly based on the activities and attractions included in the iVenture Card. How to get there: How To Get There: By MTR, you may ride the MTR to Disneyland Resort Station on the Disneyland Resort line. For convenience, you may also take a private car transfer to Disneyland Hong Kong.
VICTORIA PEAK
Address: Mid-Levels, Hong KongIf there's one tourist spot in Hong Kong you should not miss, that is definitely the Victoria Peak. It offers a breathtaking view of the city. The best time to visit is during sunset so you'll be able to experience both day and night views of the city.

How to get there: Riding The Peak Tram is the quickest and most scenic way to arrive at The Peak. The Peak Tram Lower Terminus where you ride the tram can be reached by walking from MTR Central Station. From Central MTR Exit J2, turn right and go through Chater Garden, cross Queen's Road Central, and go up Garden Road. You will pass the Bank of China Tower and Citibank Plaza on your left and St John's Cathedral on your right.
IMPORTANT NOTE:
If you're visiting at peak hours from 4:00 to 7:00 pm or during weekends, you can expect to wait for up to 90 minutes in the queuing lines. To skip the line, you may opt to get fast track entry and buy a Peak Tram Fast-Track Combo via Klook.com.

Address: Yau Tsim Mong District, Kowloon Hong KongThis is a shopping haven for shoes, gadgets, and boasts of a lot of stalls of bargain clothing, accessories and souvenirs. You can also find here the Ladies Market, dubbed as the premier fashionista destination in Hong Kong. This is definitely the place to be for shop-a-holics! But if you don't have money for shopping, this is also a good place to eat and take photos of the bright neon lights of the establishments.

Best time to visit: Although it is open at day time, the best time to visit is at night for you to enjoy and be mesmerized by the bright neon lights of the many shops in Mong Kok.
How to get there: Take the Tsuen Wan MTR train to Mongkok Station. Exit to either B2 or B3.
OCEAN PARK HONG KONG

I'm not really into theme parks, but since this is included in the iVenture card, we included it in our itinerary. What I enjoyed here the most are the cable car ride and the many Instagram-worthy spots you'll find inside the park.
TRAVEL TIPS: You may purchase CHEAPER Ocean Park Hong Kong Tickets if you buy via KKday. Get a 1-day general admission ticket for as low as PHP 2,889! No need print out the voucher, just scan the QR code to enter the park! It's so easy and convenient to use!

How to get there: Take the MTR to Ocean Park Station. Alternatively, you can take the MTR from Tsim Sha Tsui Station to Admiralty station. Once there, find the bus station located at Exit B and get on to Citybus Route 629. For convenience, you may also book a private car transfer to Ocean Park Hong Kong.
VICTORIA HARBOUR, AVENUE OF STARS, AND SYMPHONY OF LIGHTS
Address: Tsim Sha Tsui, Hong KongAt night time, many tourists visit the Victoria Harbour for the free Symphony of Lights show. Organized by Hong Kong Tourism Board, it is one of the most famous free things to do and attractions in Hong Kong. Get ready to be amazed by the harmonious display of lights, fireworks, and music that lasts for a few minutes. You can catch it along Avenue of Stars in Tsim Sha Tsui Harbour.
During our visit, the Avenue of Stars is currently under renovation. But you can still watch the Symphony of Lights in the area. For the meantime, a selection of the Avenue of Stars exhibits are on display at Garden of Stars, which is just a short walk from the Avenue of Stars.
Admission Fee: FREE
Best time to visit: At night. The Symphony of Lights Show starts at 8:00 PM. You may also book a Victoria Harbour Night Cruise & "A Symphony of Lights" Cruise for a better experience.
How to get there: If you're staying in Tsim Sha Tsui area, Victoria Harbour can be reached via 15 minutes walk. We just used the Google Map and followed the directions. If not, take the MTR to get to Tsim Sha Tsui MTR station. Get off the station by taking Exit E and cross the road. Walk 150 meters to Salisbury Road. Then use subway to cross Salisbury Road.
TRAVEL TIP: If you want to see Victoria Harbour on a different view, you may also book a Victoria Harbour Cruise (Best option!), Star Ferry Harbour Tour, Victoria Harbour Dreamer Night Cruise ＆amp; Star Chaser, or Aqua Luna Victoria Harbour Cruise.
ST. JOHN'S CATHEDRAL

Considered as the "oldest Anglican church in the Far East," the Cathedral Church of Saint John the Evangelist is located along Garden Rd, Central, Hong Kong. You can visit this church on your way to the Victoria Peak Tram boarding area.
TRAVEL TIP: There's a small park beside the church where you could rest if you're already tired walking on your way to The Peak Tram.
HOW TO GET THERE: Take the MTR to Central Station. Take Exit D1 and walk along Pedder Street to Queen's Road Central. Walk along Queen's Road Central to Battery Street.
THE ART OF CHOCOLATE MUSEUM

Located at The Peak Galleria, this is a good side trip after visiting Victoria Peak. Here, you can see many chocolate art pieces as well as join chocolate making workshops. There's also a chocolate playing area that the kids and "young-at-heart" will sure enjoy.
HOW TO GET THERE: This is located at The Peak. You just need to follow the instructions on how to get to Victoria Peak and then go to The Peak Galleria where it is located.
MAN MO TEMPLE
Address: 5號 Chi Lin Dr, Sheung Yuen Leng, Hong KongOpening hours: 8:00 am - 6:00 pm
Dedicated to the gods of literature ('Man') and the god of martial arts ('Mo'), Man Mo Temple is considered as one of the oldest temples in Hong Kong built in 1847. The temple is graded as a Grade I Historic Building in Hong Kong as it features a lot of traditional arts and craftsmanship. There are several Man Mo Temples in Hong Kong, the largest in Hong Kong is this one which is located along Hollywood Road, in Sheung Wan, Central Hong Kong.
HOW TO GET THERE: Take the MTR to Sheung Wan Station. Take Exit A2 then walk along Hillier Street to Queen's Road Central. Then proceed up Ladder Street (next to Lok Ku Road) to Hollywood Road to get to the Man Mo Temple.
CHI LIN NUNNERY
Address: 5 Chi Lin Dr, Diamond Hill, KowloonOpening hours: 9:00 am - 4:30 pm
Located in Diamond Hill, Chi Lin Nunnery is a huge and beautiful Buddhist temple complex founded in 1934. It boasts of elegant wooden architecture in the style of the Tang Dynasty. Built without nails, it is considered as "the world's largest hand-made wooden building." Visiting the nunnery, you could enjoy the lush gardens, bonsai plants, bougainvillea, and lotus ponds. If you're looking for things to do or tourist spots in Hong Kong that you could visit for free, visit Chi Lin Nunnery. No entrance fee!
BEST TIME TO VISIT CHI LIN NUNNERY? If you want to take photos with not too many people, visit it early in the morning. Be there even before it opens. Chi Lin Nunnery is open daily from 07:00 am to 04:30 pm.
HOW TO GET TO CHI LIN NUNNERY? Take the MTR Kwun Tong Line and get off at Diamond Hill MTR station. Take Exit C2. Go around the Plaza Holywood Shopping Centre and walk for about 5 minutes along Fung Tak Road until you reach a pedestrian bridge. Chi Lin Nunnery is on your left side. Go up and cross the pedestrian bridge to get to the Chi Lin Nunnery.
NAN LIAN GARDEN
Address: 60 Fung Tak Road, Diamond Hill, KowloonOpening hours: 7:00 am - 9:00 pm
Located just across Chi Lin Nunnery, the Nan Lian Garden is also a must-visit when in Hong Kong. This peaceful and beautiful garden that screams to be photographed, is a good place to take some Instagram-worthy photos. Featuring Chinese Classical Garden and highlighted with a lovely pagoda, the public park was also built in the style of the Tang dynasty. It's a nice place to take a break, rest, and just appreciate nature. Admission at Nan Lian Garden is also free!
BEST TIME TO VISIT NAN LIAN GARDEN? As a huge park or garden, it is not crowded most of the time. For me the best time to visit is early in the morning.
HOW TO GET TO NAN LIAN GARDEN? Located just across Chi Lin Nunnery, you just have to follow the steps on how to get to Chi Lin Nunnery. Just cross the pedestrian bridge from Chi Lin Nunnery to get to Nan Lian Garden.
CHOI HUNG ESTATE
Address: 2 Tse Wai Ave, Ngau Chi Wan, Hong KongOpening hours: 05:00 am - 10:30 pm, daily (basketball court)
Choi Hung Estate is one of the oldest public housing estates in Hong Kong. "Choi Hung" literally means rainbow in Chinese. It is popular for its beautiful basketball court and colorful buildings painted in 8 different colors. A must-visit is the elevated basketball court where you could take awesome IG-worthy photos against the beautiful buildings as the background. It's definitely one of the places in Hong Kong to take a insanely beautiful photos. As it is a basketball court, expect it to be full with many students playing in the court. Please be mindful so as not to disrupt them.
BEST TIME TO VISIT CHOI HUNG ESTATE? We visited it in the morning at around 10:00 AM. I'm not sure about its opening hours, but I assume the basketball court is open during school hours from 07:00 am to 05:00 pm.
HOW TO GET TO CHOI HUNG ESTATE? Take the Kwun Tong line of the MTR to Choi Hung Station, then take exits C3 or C4. Look for Choi Hung Estate Catholic Secondary School. In front of the school, you'll find an elevated car park. Go up the car park and you will find the basketball court.
MONTANE MANSION or MONSTER BUILDING
Address: King's Road, Quarry Bay, Hong Kong Island, Hong KongHong Kong is known for overpopulation, but the Montane Mansion in Quarry Bay takes this to a whole new level. A popular Instagram-worthy spots in Hong Kong, the Montane Mansion (aka "Monster Building") is a residential building complex composed of five old mansions. These building are Oceanic Mansion, Fook Cheong Building, Montane Mansion, Yick Cheong Building and Yick Fat Building. It is considered as one of the "most instagrammed places in Hong Kong" and definitely a must-see for any photographer visiting Hong Kong. What makes it IG-worthy? The unbelievable symmetry of the interconnected buildings provides an amazing view that gives us a glimpse of the old Hong Kong and also makes an huge backdrop for that IG-worthy photo.
When visiting Montane Mansion, please note that it is a private residential area. Don't be noisy and always be mindful not to disturb the usual activities of the residents. There is a security guard at entrance, ask permission first before entering the complex.
BEST TIME TO VISIT MONTANE MANSION? We visited Montane Mansion at around 4:00 in the afternoon. For me, the best time to visit is late afternoon to early evening so that the sunlight is not that harsh. And at night to see how magical the lights of the buildings are.
HOW TO GET TO MONTANE MANSION? Take the MTR to Quarry Bay Station via the Island Line or Tseung Kwan O line. Take exit A. Walk to your right for around 3-5 minutes along King’s Road towards Tai Ko. Take note of the road on your right leading to Mt. Parker. After walking pass the junction to Mount Parker, you will reach the entrance to Montane Mansion and Ocenaic Mansion. Enter the entrance and you will see the courtyard. Use google maps for additional help on directions.
SKY100 HONG KONG OBSERVATION DECK
Address: 100/F, International Commerce Centre, 1 Austin Road West, Kowloon, Hong KongThis is said to be the only place in Hong Kong where you could get amazing 360° views of the Victoria Harbor, Hong Kong Island, Kowloon, and the New Territories. You can get to the Sky100's observation deck in just 1 minute by taking Hong Kong’s fastest double-decker elevators. The observation deck is located on the 100th floor of the International Commerce Centre (ICC) - the city's tallest building!

You can adjust this budget depending on how many are you in the group, the tourist spots and activities you want to do in Hong Kong, and how many days you will be staying in Hong Kong.
Hong Kong Travel Tips and Reminders
- For electricity, most establishments use the type G socket 3-pin square plugs with 220 Volts at 50 hertz. Don't forget to bring a universal adapter when traveling to Hong Kong.
- Travel time from/to Hong Kong International Airport from/to Hong Kong City Center depends on which transportation you'll be using. The fastest way to get to/from the airport from/to the city is via the Airport Express Train. Take note of this so you could plan your travel especially going to airport so you will not miss your flight.
- You can bring in Philippine Peso, Euros, or US Dollars in Hong Kong and change it at the money changers at the airport or at the city center. Exchange rate at the airport is terribly low, it's better to change your money at the city center.
- If you're on a budget, don't eat in restaurants. It's best to look for streetside kiosks where you could eat a decent meal or go to fast food chains such as Mc Donald's where you could grab a meal for 25 HKD. Convenience stores such as 7-Eleven are also a good choice for affordable ready to eat meals.
- Hong Kong has summer, winter, spring and fall. Be sure to check the weather before going there so you'll know what kind of clothing you should pack in your bags.
- Hong Kong is a very walkable city. When exploring the city, you will certainly walk a lot. It is best to wear comfortable footwear.
- Free In-town Check-in Service is available for many major airlines at Hong Kong and Kowloon MTR stations. If you've already checked-out of your hotel and you still want to explore Hong Kong without bringing your huge luggage, you can avail this service between 90 minutes and one full day before your flight.
- To save on travel expenses, book discounted tickets at Klook.com, join group tours, take the bus or the MTR, walk if you can, stay in hostels, guest houses, or budget hotels in Hong Kong, and take advantage of flight seat sales and promos.

In this part, I'll be answering some of the most common questions I've been receiving about traveling to Hong Kong. Feel free to leave a comment below so I could also share them here.
Do we need show money to enter Hong Kong?
Answer: No. But be sure you brought enough money to cover the cost of your travel. Or you may also bring your credit card and ATM card for your expenses. But it's always good to bring cash.
Is Disneyland Ticket included in the iVenture Card?
Answer: Not yet. But you can buy a Hong Kong Disneyland ticket at a discounted rate of HK$ 449 for adults and HK$ 369 for kids using your iVenture Card.
Upon arrival at Kowloon can we leave our baggage at the in-town check in then go straight to sight-seeing?
Answer: Yes. As long as your airline has an in-town check-in service counter at Hong Kong or Kowloon MTR Stations. Please note that this only applies if you're flying out of Hong Kong International Airport.
We are 4 in all (me, husband, and 2 kids), should each of us buy the octopus card or can we just buy 1 or 2?
Answer: For adults, you should get one each. For kids, it depends on the age. For kids below 3 years old, you don't need to get one. For kids 3 to 11 years old, you should get them an Octopus Card.
