Five Tips That Will Help Your Move Overseas Go Smoother

Moving is never a fun task, and it’s one that always tends to cause at least some stress and anxiety. So, what happens when your move involves packing up and heading overseas? Suddenly that level of stress and anxiety can hit all new levels as there is a lot to prepare, organise, and think about. You want to be sure that when it comes to packing you don’t leave anything behind, but at the same time you don’t take things that you really don’t need. Then there’s the fact that you want to know that your items will be shipped safely and securely to your new home.

To help make the process as smooth as possible, we’ve gone ahead and put together five essential tips meant for those moving overseas.

Start by Going through Your Belongings

Before you even start to think about packing up, it’s important to take some time to go through your belongings. People accumulate all kinds of things over time and that doesn’t necessarily mean it’s things you need or want. There is no sense in taking the time to pack those items up, pay to have them shipped, and then unpack them on the other end if you don’t even need them.

A good way to go about the organisation process is to make three piles, or you can even label things with three different tags. There should be a keep, giveaway, and toss pile that you work on.

Look into Possible Restrictions on Items

As you make those piles of things to take with you or get rid of, you will also want to look into whether or not there are any items that aren't permitted to come with you. Every country has its own rules and regulations, so it's important to look into.

Pack in Small Amounts at a Time

To help prevent burnout while you pack, it can also be wise to pack small amounts at a time. Set aside a specific amount of time each day that will be spent packing, doing no more or no less. This spreads it out and makes the task seem a bit less daunting.

Don’t Be Afraid to Ask for Help

If your move was a last-minute thing giving you not much time to organise and pack, it may be a good idea to ask for help from family members or friends. You can turn it into a packing party and going away party all at once. Just be sure to have snacks and beverages to serve your helpers to show your appreciation.

Hire the Professionals

Then there is the fact that you can always hire professional movers who have experience with overseas moving. Take for example Overseas Packers for shipping overseas services such as wrapping and packing your items, helping you to move special items, storage facilities if needed, and more.

Don’t Let the Stress of Moving Get to You

Moving overseas is a wonderful adventure and opportunity in most cases, so rather than spending time stressing over the move itself, these tips will help you to get organised so that you can focus on how great the experience will be.
