CHIANG MAI: Elephant Pride Sanctuary Experience in Thailand

Elephant Pride Sanctuary Experience in Chiang Mai Thailand

Going to Chiang Mai and you want to experience interaction with the elephants?

Elephant interaction experience is one of the must-do activities when in Chiang Mai. The best way to experience interaction with the elephants in Chiang Mai is to visit an elephant sanctuary. But one of my concerns is where to experience it in the most ethical way? We've heard about cruelty to animals so many times. And me as an animal lover, it hurts me so much to see animals not very well taken cared of. We're so lucky because during our trip, we met a new friend in Chiang Mai. His name is Chanchai who has an elephant sanctuary with 7 healthy elephants.

We visited Elephant Pride Sanctuary located in a jungle on top of the highest mountain in the province. Chanchai's passion on educating tourists visiting Chiang Mai on the proper way of having elephant interaction is really commendable. On our way to the sanctuary, he told us stories about the elephants under his care. How he got one of them out from the circus, and some elephants he rescued from locals who use them for hard labor in the mountains.

Upon arrival at the sanctuary, I was impressed because it is huge and has a lot of land area where the friendly elephants can freely roam around. Here, we got to experience feeding them, playing with them, and help the staff bathe them at the river. They are not caged or chained so they can freely roam around the huge sanctuary.

What makes it really special is that the staff of the sanctuary are from the Karen tribe who really knows how to take care of the elephants. I love that the elephants are healthy, fed very well and well-nourished. I, myself is against animal cruelty. At Elephant Pride Sanctuary, riding them is not allowed, which is very good.
