HONG KONG TO MACAU TRAVEL TIPS AND REMINDERS:

  • Weekends and night sailing are usually more expensive than weekday and day time sailing. Consider this when planning your trip.
  • Be sure to bring your passport with you. You need to clear immigration both in Hong Kong and Macau. Filipinos can enter Macau visa free and you can stay in Macau for not more than 30 days.
  • Boarding the ferry is quite easy and simple. After getting your tickets, you just need to go through Hong Kong immigration at the ferry terminal and then go to the boarding area to wait for your sailing time.
  • Be at the ferry terminal at least one to 2 hours ahead of your sailing schedule. There are times that lines at the immigration could be quite long. Be sure consider this to give ample time for this situation.
  • Upon arriving at the boarding area, be sure to approach one of the staff and show your ferry ticket. The staff will then give you your seat number. This is the best time to ask the staff where you want to sit.
  • If you have an iVenture Card (Hong Kong and Macau Attractions Pass), you can get 15% off discount on Cotai Water Jet ferry tickets. For more details on this, please read my review on the iVenture Card.
  • Even if you booked your tickets online, you can also board an earlier ferry if you want after you have purchased your ticket with a specific sailing time. All you need to do is to go to the ferry terminal and ask the staff at the ferry ticketing booth about the seat availability. If there are available seats on an earlier time, they will allow you to board the ferry.
  • Also take note of the luggage restrictions. Each passenger is allowed to bring 1 piece hand carry luggage for free. Hand-carry luggage size should be 600mm x 200mm x 350mm and should weigh not more than 20 kgs. All luggage exceeding the limitation must be checked-in. Standard size for checked-in luggage is 760mm x 560mm x 280mm within 40kgs. Note that luggage check-in service is available from 45 minutes up to 20 minutes before departure time.

Hong Kong to Macau by Bus via Sea Bridge

You can also travel to Macau by bus from Hong Kong. The sea bridge that connects Hong Kong and Macau just opened last October 2018. I haven't tried it but below is a video guide I found on YouTube.

This is a good choice if you're coming from Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) and you want to proceed directly to Macau. Note that HongKong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge (HZMB) is in Lantau Island. If you're already in Hong Kong city center, you need to go to Lantau Island first to board the bus going to Macau. So, if you're already in Hong Kong City Center (Kowloon or Central areas), the best option is still taking the ferry from Hong Kong to Macau. The ferry terminals are much closer and convenient to go to.

For ease and convenience, you can also book your bus tickets online via Klook. It's an express shared bus from Hong Kong that will bring you to Macau comfortably and efficiently.

Often solely considered as a mecca for dedicated gamblers (the industry is seven times bigger than Las Vegas's after all), the eclectic beauty and European vibe of Macau are not to be missed. As the far-East's first European settlement, Macanese culture is strongly defined by the amalgamation of its Chinese and Portuguese heritage, resulting in the city's fabulous European architecture, delicious fusion food, and generally far more relaxed vibe than its Hong Kong neighbor. 1. We are planning to have our last day in Macau and we will be flying out from Macau to Manila. With all the luggages with us, are there lockers where we can safe keep them for the day? Preferably in the airport? For a hassle free roaming around Macau? Or can we leave our luggages at Venetian even though we are not staying there?
