Looking for unique ways to spend Christmas weekends with friends or family? Head over to San Fernando, La Union and experience its Paskuhan Village!
Dubbed as “Pasko sa Kapitolyo”, LU’s recently introduced Christmas Village combines fun Yuletide-themed activities and displays for all ages. Thousands of colorful LED lights were installed on the 600-meter uphill pathway that connects the town plaza and San Fernando’s Provincial Capitol Building. This includes a massive tunnel fronting the capitol and white and blue lights illuminating the entire Filipino-Chinese Friendship Pagoda.
Boasting an impressive architecture that overlooks the bay, the capitol building is hailed as one of the most beautiful public structures in Central Luzon. However, because of its obscure location on a hill, not a lot of people – even locals – know that it exists. Those who do only make their way to the building to secure government documents.
During the event’s launch last November 30, Provincial Governor Pacoy Ortega shared that the event aims to promote the building as an added attraction for locals and tourists and to introduce local artistry and small and medium enterprises.
Thousands of visitors flocked to the capitol, where they enjoyed magnificent performances from a local orchestra and award winning LU-based Alab Poi Dancers, accompanied by a pyro musical display.
Children were treated to photo opportunities with Disney mascots and a complimentary mini train ride around the capitol building. Visitors can enjoy the train ride nightly for free until the event ends this December. Over the weekend, puppet show and mime artists delighted visitors.
There’s also a Christmas Bazaar featuring 30 homegrown stores and entrepreneurs, from a children’s shop selling P10 toys to F&B outlets such as Thirst. The bazaar is available every day from 5 pm onwards. Truly a festive Yule experience!
Pasko sa Kapitolyo runs daily until December 30, 2018, from 5 pm to 12 mn. For more information about the event, visit the La Union LGU’s Facebook page at www.facebook.com/LGUlaunion.
