Take Your Next Road Trip to the Spectacular Antique Province

Filipinos love to travel with friends and family according to the latest Agoda’s Family Travel Trends survey. While the thought of international travel is certainly appealing, there is not much that can compete with a well-planned, fun-filled road trip to one of the beautiful regions of the Philippines. Although Manila and the area surrounding it boast numerous sought-after road trip destinations, there are a number of very underrated yet equally as exquisite routes to explore. One area that is undeniably worth considering for your next road trip, is the picturesque province of Antique that offers some of the most striking natural scenery in all of the Philippines.

Preparing for your trip

Before you set off for your road trip through Antique Province, you need to ensure that you are well-prepared for the journey.  The first thing you need to do when planning a road trip is to make sure that you have a vehicle to travel in that is both roadworthy and comfortable. If you have doubts about the ability of your car to make the long trip it is perhaps time to either invest in another one, if your finances allow for it, or have a mechanic conduct a proper service.  Check that everything from your windows and tires to brakes and windscreen wipers are in good working order and don’t forget to check all your fluid before departing. Always keep a roadmap, drinking water, a couple of healthy snacks and basic first aid kit in your car as you never know when it may come in handy.  

Planning your itinerary

Once you have established that your vehicle is in a road-trip worthy condition, you can start to plan your trip through the Antique Province. Some of the must-visit attractions include the perplexing Maanghit Cave in Libertad, the exquisite crystalline Bugang River & Malumpati Cold Spring in Pandan, and plentiful rice terraces that lay scattered across Valderrama. Give yourself enough time to not only travel from one destination to the next but also to be able to fully immerse yourself in the beauty and cultural diversity of the region.

Don’t forget to pay the capital a visit

While Antique is without a doubt best known for its natural splendor, the capital of the province, San Jose de Buenavista, has its own appeal. If you are somewhat of a foodie, San Jose will be of particular interest to you. From the best traditional Filipino food imaginable served at quaint, understated eateries to delicious Western dishes prepared in ultra-modern kitchens, San Jose boasts offerings for even the fussiest of palates. Make a point of indulging in local delicacies including lechon manok, grilled hito, tasty authentic chicken binakol, and lumpia Shangha at Tay Inggo Manokan And Seafoods or head over to the very stylish Teriyaki Boyfor for a modern-day take on traditional Japanese cuisine.

Antique Province may not be the most populous region in the Philippines, but it is without a doubt one of the most naturally beautiful. Whether your road trip lasts a couple of days or a few weeks, spending time in Antique will definitely fill your heart with a lot of happiness and content.
