Planning a trip to Shanghai, China? Don't miss visiting Disneyland Shanghai!
Growing up, I always dreamed of visiting Disneyland. As a kid, it's an ultimate dream for me to have a memorable holiday in Disneyland with my family and friends. Unfortunately, we are not rich and our family cannot afford to travel abroad to have a Disneyland experience. That is why, I promised myself that when the time comes that I'll be given the chance to visit Disneyland, I will grab the opportunity, and will enjoy and have an amazing time.
Spending a day at Disneyland Park is like fulfilling a dream. My first time to visit Disneyland was when we had a trip to Tokyo last year. It was then followed by a visit to Hong Kong Disneyland late last year. I enjoyed them both and I feel so happy that I finally had a wonderful Disneyland experience.

Enjoying a day or two at Shanghai Disneyland is one of the top things to do in Shanghai.
Just recently, I had another Disneyland experience, this time it's in Shanghai, China. Opened in 2016, Shanghai Disneyland Park is the first Disney theme park in mainland China. With this, let me share to you my top things to do at Shanghai Disneyland China, plus travel tips and how to get there.
1. Take a photo with the Disney characters
Meet, greet and take photos of some of your favorite Disney characters.
For any kid, meeting his or her favorite Disney character is definitely the highlight of any Disneyland visit. Don’t take it to chance by getting the schedule of the Disney character appearances and grab the opportunity to let your kids (and even you) to have a photo with them.
2. Enjoy the fun and thrilling rides
Shanghai Disneyland Park has six themed lands, such as Mickey Avenue, Gardens of Imagination, Adventure Isle, Treasure Cove, Fantasyland, and Tomorrowland.
Must-try is the TRON Lightcycle Power Run ride at Tomorrowland area. This coaster-style attraction lets you get on a train of motorcycles and have a fast and exhilarating ride. We got to try it and we had a wonderful experience of exhilarating thrills with amazing storytelling. If there’s one ride you should not miss when visiting Shanghai Disneyland, this should be it. It’s definitely one of the most thrilling ride at any Disneyland Park Resort.
Aside from TRON, there are many rides and attractions at the park suitable for kids, teens and adults.
3. Watch the parades and shows
Aside from marveling at the huge Enchanted Storybook Castle which is said to be the tallest Disneyland castle, don’t miss the stage set up in front of the castle which is used for musical shows featuring the Disney princesses. Also don't miss the parade of Disney characters and huge floats that you'll surely enjoy! Watch them dancing and performing some skits to the enjoyment of everyone.
4. Take IG-worthy photos
As what they say, Shanghai Disneyland is “authentically Disney and distinctly Chinese.” Take your pick at any of the six themed lands at the park and have many IG-worthy photos to share to your family and friends. Just make sure you have enough space on your phone or camera because they have lots of Instagram-worthy spots that you can choose from.
5. Eat and shop
Most of the food served at Shanghai Disneyland is, well, distinctly Chinese. Also, don’t miss the many shops inside the park where you'll find the largest selection of Disney-themed gifts and collectibles that are ideal souvenirs or pasalubong for your friends and loved ones back home.
Also a must-visit is the Disneytown which is an area filled with dining, shopping, and entertainment venues. Make sure you have enough pocket money with you because your visit to Shanghai Disneyland is not complete without souvenirs!
SHANGHAI DISNEYLAND TIPS AND REMINDERS
To fully enjoy your Shanghai Disneyland Park experience, here are some useful tips and reminders.
Don't forget your passport. Remember to bring your passport when visiting Shanghai Disneyland. This will be required when entering the park for verification at the gates.
Arrive at the park early. As the only Disneyland Park in mainland China, expect huge crowd at the park. Be sure to arrive as early as 07:00 am and be one of the firsts on the line. The gates open at 08:30 am.
Buy tickets in advance. Shanghai Disneyland limits the sale of park tickets each day. During our visit, no tickets are sold at the gates. Good thing we booked our park tickets online in advance.
Buy discounted tickets via Klook. Since we already booked our tickets online, we just went straight to the entrance gate upon arrival at the park. We just showed our passports and we got to enter the park. This also saved us a lot of time. Book discounted Disneyland tickets here.
Download the Shanghai Disneyland Park App. This app provides offline map, information on the waiting time on each ride, parade and show schedules, and more. You can even get a fast pass using this app!
Plan your trip well. It’s impossible to experience all the rides in just one day. So, better plan your trip and prioritize the rides, attractions and shows you want to see and experience first. Take advantage also of the fast pass by getting the pass from the app or on-site. If you want to explore Disneyland Shanghai more, you may also consider booking a 2 days Disneyland Pass.
Bring extra clothes. There are rides and attractions that you might get wet. Bring extra clothes or you can just buy a Disney shirt if ever you got wet.
HOW TO GET TO SHANGHAI DISNEYLAND?
Shanghai Disneyland Park is located on the eastern part of Pudong district. It is actually closer to the Shanghai Pudong Airport than the city center of Shanghai. If you're coming from the city center, take the Shanghai Metro Line 11 which provides convenient and fast access to Disney Resort via the Terminal Station "Disney Resort." Travel time is about 30-40 minutes and fare is around 5-6 Yuan depending on where in the city center you're coming from.
If you’re traveling with family or in a group, I recommend that you get a private car transfer for a hassle-free experience. Book a car transfer here. You may also consider a cheaper alternative such as the Shared City Transfers from Shanghai to Shanghai Disneyland Resort.
