So, you’ve booked a trip to Norway, huh? You must be quite excited to head to the airport, then. Unless, of course, you’ve been suddenly hit with the realization that you know nothing about the country. That’s why we’re here; to give you a couple of survival tips for when you go there.
Pack Properly
Being a country that lies in Northern Europe, Norway’s climate happens to be quite colder than your usual European travel destinations. This is why we recommend that, before traveling, you check out an online weather forecast of the city you’re headed to. That way, you won’t be surprised when the weather gets too cold. Now, you may be thinking, “since when do weather forecasts get it right?” We can’t agree more. So, just in case, make sure you pack a heavy jacket, a scarf, a pair of gloves, and a beanie. For a country that gets completely covered by snow for 3 months a year, don’t worry, you won’t be overdoing it if you pack a huge lot of clothes. It’s survival of the warmest out there.
Watch Your Budget
Norway is considered one of the most expensive countries in the world. If you know anyone who’s been there before, ask them about it; they’ll probably tell you a million stories. The thing is, it’s not about their currency being highly valued; you’d be surprised by the exchange rate from Norwegian Krones to USD. There are several currency converter (valutakalkulator in Norwegian you can use that will confirm the fact that Dollars are higher in value. To this we say, just wait until you land in the country, you’ll realize that the prices aren’t just like in the U.S. While it may cost you $4 to buy a beer in America, it’ll cost you 85 Krones (about $9) to buy one in Norway. So, make sure you either have a little more than what you think is enough money, or have someone who can transfer money to you.
Turn Your Focus to Mother Nature
Throughout your life, you’ll get to see amazing sights, but none comparable to the one’s you’ll witness in Norway. The natural scenery there is absolutely breathtaking, as well as, free. So, not only will you be granting yourself a marvelous experience, but you’ll also be spending less. Plus, the country is already known for its numerous hiking trails which happen to vary in difficulty. Though, if you plan to go on a hike there, we advise that you bring your own hiking boots from home, and arrange for transportation and accommodation prior to your arrival in the country; it’s cheaper that way.
Bon Voyage
While there’s a lot more to say about Norway, it is better that you find out yourselves. We would rather not spoil the fun of you making your own discoveries. Which brings us to an important point. Remember that you’re going on a vacation – it should be fun – so, try not to stress out too much. Just go with the flow and you’ll be okay. Finally, a pro tip for all of you avid drinkers. Buy all the alcohol you need from the airport’s duty free shops; you’d be doing yourself a huge favor.
